Oh god, I am not going to even start this essay until, like, 3am, am I? Why am so unmotivated! Why do I not want to do anything! I suck at life. Woooooooe. The new album by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is pretty great, though.

Time wasters?

[livejournal.com profile] radiofreebanri has the new chapter of Reload up, in case you are like me and totally manage to miss the post until someone else links it. Translation on the second page of comments. Awwww, Goku.

Cropped Scan Theatre (YnM) books 6, 7 and 8.

Awesome, awesome Saiyuki meta about the mahjong game in the Kamisama arc by [livejournal.com profile] ranith. Why is mahjong so complicated? I tried to teach myself how to play once, and I got lost about two rules in. ...I'm awesome at the solitaire version, though. I can kick Yahoo!games ass, WHAT.

2000 Words on the Theme of Love by [livejournal.com profile] harukami. Saiyuki, PG-ish, several pairings and gen, very lovely.

Wake Up by Viridian. NC-17, Sanzo/Goku and Gojyo/Hakkai, long Saiyuki reincarnation story with lovely characterization and plot and very, very good.

I adore reincarnation stories; they're so many ways to do them, and so many different places and times to set them, and... yes. Awesome. The current crack-fic!AU running in my head stars Sanzo and Gojyo's female reincarnations, set in a future/space-opera/cyberpunk world that I am very vague on the details of because who cares, it's just an excuse for porn anyway, and Sanzo is some sort of mechanic, mainly so she can carry around wrenches and wear leather tube-tops ala Winry from Full Metal Alchemist and have attractively placed grease smears high on her cheekbones.

...obviously I tell you people these things because I have no interest in retaining any dignity, ever.

Progress made on the essay in the last five hours: absolutely none! And now I think I'm going to waste more time by going to have dinner.

Your Skin Like a Whole Almond. Sanzo/Goku, PG-13, part 5 of the 'five senses' challenge at [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove.

April is the Cruelest Month. Konzen/Tenpou/Kenren, PG-13, part 5 of the 'stages of love' challenge at [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove.

...hopefully these make sense. However, I am so sick at the moment, and running such a high fever, that I wouldn't be terribly surprised if I did something really bizarre like confused the characters, or wrote the whole thing backwards. I'm sort of delirious. And tired. And possibly dying.

Man, of course I get sick the day before I have to go to an awards ceremony.
brigdh: (Sanzo and his gun have a special bond 2)
Your Hot Heart. Sanzo/Goku, PG, part 4 for the 'five senses' challenge at [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove.

Breeding Lilacs. Konzen/Tenpou/Kenren, G, part 4 for the 'five stages of love' challenge at [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove.

Also, I swear I will finish up the drabble meme I did soon. Seriously.
brigdh: (rock on!)
The Pale Stones of Your Fingernails- Sanzo/Goku, PG-13.

Stirring Dull Roots- Konzen/Kenren/Tenpou, R.

You know, it's probably a good idea if, while waiting for an elevator, you decide to start singing and dancing, that you make sure the hallway is actually empty first.

Also, hey! I'm 22 today.

I was at a used book store a few weeks ago, and picked up a book I'd been meaning to read for a while. I got around to starting it yesterday, when it looked like the most interesting thing in my to-be-read pile.

I open it up, and the first paragraph is, "Monkey never dies. He keeps coming back to help us in times of trouble, just as he helped Tripitaka through the dangers of the first journey to the west, to bring Buddhism to China."

And the main character is, apparently, a reincarnation of Monkey.

You guys, Saiyuki is stalking me!
brigdh: (*bounces*)
On time this week!

A Little Life- Konzen/Tenpou/Kenren, part two of the [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove challenge.

Hunt the Liquid Measure- Goku/Sanzo, part two of the [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove challenge.

Yes! I've been wanting to do the drabble meme again for a while now- I think the last time I did it was back in June- but I just haven't had enough time. But now? Now I do! I mean, I've got [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove and [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge, but they leave me plenty of free time for one meme, especially since I have no papers due for quite some time.

So request something and I will write it for you! Any characters, any pairings, any fandoms, any prompt, as long as I know them.
brigdh: (lemme think about that)
[livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove entries for the new round:
Hungry, Sanzo/Goku, G.
Kept Us Warm, Konzen/Tenpou/Kenren (uh, theoretically. Kenren hasn't actually shown up yet), G.

Update on racist guy: I ran into him today again (or, well, I saw him entering the lobby as I was coming in the other side, and promptly turned around and entered through another door so he wouldn't see me). I've never met the people who live next door to me, I never see the friends I have who live here without making plans to meet them, but the one person I don't want to see I meet twice in the first two days he's here? What the fuck, universe?

Anyway. The 'what character do I remind you of' meme is going around again, I see. It first circulated, oh, three years ago, and I loved the idea of it then, and loved more some of the responses I got. The overlap between people I knew then and people I know now is about five, not to mention that I'd expect to get different answers even from people who have known me after this much time.

So. What fictional character do I remind you of?
brigdh: (thicker than water)
It's International Saiyuki week! So change your default icon to something Saiyuki-related and post about why you love it.

In honor of the event, I'm posting a paper I wrote last week for the final of my fairy tales class. The assignment was to write about a modern retelling of a fairy tale or folk tale; guess what I chose. I feel compelled to point out that this was mostly written in the middle of the night and directed towards people who have never heard of manga, but feel free to point out anything I missed. ETA: Burial Arc spoilers! I forgot to warn for that, since I doubt my professor cares about finding out what happens.

Salty Dog IV (aka the new Saiyuki artbook) scans.

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] sexy_roach over on [livejournal.com profile] campersfuckoff, but I thought I'd upload it again, as I wasn't sure how many downloads there were left.

Comments:

Oh my god, why is everyone so pretty? And when did Goku get so fucking hot?

Isn't Bus Gamer coming out in English? I thought I heard a rumor about that. Does anyone know the due date, or who the publisher is?

Mmmm, the picture of Sanzo and the match is gorgeous. Also, I'm really amused whenever Sanzo puts his hair in a ponytail.

But my favorite picture is the one of all four of the ikkou in purple fading to gold. Oh my god, they're in a big puppy pile. Goku is practically lying in Sanzo's lap, and Gojyo is all draped over his shoulder, and he's got his arm on Hakkai's leg, and lakjdlkdl;. Yes.

Share the art love!

Also, shut up. I am totally working on my remix and not procrastinating at all.

Recs!

brigdh: (Tsuzuki and I are taking a break now)
Because I live to provide amusement for you all. Or 'cause I need something to do while I wait for a program to download, whichever.

Sex Ed by [livejournal.com profile] harukami. Saiyuki, R. Sanzo/Goku, but it's really about how Hakkai and Gojyo play matchmaker.
The rest would have been history, except that Sanzo, in a large fuck you to Right Action, had refused to do anything about it. Or say anything about it. Or arrange for the two of them to share a room, even.
Sanzo was clearly okay with this decision he'd made to avoid actually
having a relationship with Goku. Goku, on the basis that Sanzo was okay with it, was also okay with it.
Hakkai (who had been attempting to hook those two up for about three years now, morals be damned) and Gojyo (who was of the opinion that Cherry-chan might be a bit less inclined to ventilate Gojyo's head if he got laid once in a while), however, were not okay with this.

Ink Blots by [livejournal.com profile] harukami. Saiyuki, G. I read this a while ago, and I forget if I recced it or not, but I'm doing it again because it's so funny. What the ikkou see in an ink blot.

Three and Autumn Gold by [livejournal.com profile] edonohana. Saiyuki, PG. The first two parts of a "Five Incarnations That Never Happened" series. Wonderful, lovely AUs that are genius takes off of canon.

[livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove recs! I meant to do this sooner, but I had to wait for everyone to get in their last piece, and then I forgot about it.
Lemon Scents and Cigarettes by [livejournal.com profile] tad_coast. Saiyuki, Hakkai/Gojyo, R. A very lovely and sad take on the pairing.
1|2|3|4|5
Crowley/Aziraphale by [livejournal.com profile] airlia_vega. Good Omens, G. A cute, funny series, with footnotes!
1|2|3|4|5
Hisoka/Muraki/Tsuzuki by [livejournal.com profile] p_zeitgeist. Yami no Matsuei, R. Oh my God. I cannot believe that this pairing works so well. It's creepy and fucked up and weird and just right. Go read!
1|2|3|4|5
Simon/River by [livejournal.com profile] redshoeson. Firefly, G. A nice, delicate take on the Crazy Space Incest.
1|2|3|4|5
Kenren/Tenpou/Konzen by [livejournal.com profile] elizacake. Saiyuki Gaiden, R. Because who doesn't love this threesome? Also Konzen and waterlilies is the best image ever.
1|2|3|4|5
love-crumbs by [livejournal.com profile] ranalore. Wild Adapter, Kubota/Tokitoh, PG. This is the fic that made me change from "Wild Adapter, I read that, it was interesting" to "I love these characters so much". You have to read this; it is perfect.
1|2|3|4|5

[livejournal.com profile] campfuckudie threads:
Gojyo and Yumichika (a shinigami from Bleach) body-switch. The next day, they get drunk and make out to see if it cures them (hey, it works sometimes). Hakkai is Not Pleased, leading to the funniest thread ever.
Sanzo holds 'So You Were Locked in a Cage' therapy. It kills me that Goku wasn't around to join in.
Yaone comes to camp! Be especially sure to read her thread with Ishida; it's great.
Swift comes to camp (from Wraethu). And immediately hits on Rue. Good times.

brigdh: (Gaiden)
Uploaded these for a friend the other day, sharing the links with anyone who'd like:

Saiyuki Gaiden Volume One
Saiyuki Gaiden Volume Two
Latest Chapters

Also, can anyone point me to the translations to chapters 20 and 21? Those would be the latest two chapters; Cut for spoilers ) I know translations exist, because I've read them, I just can't remember where.

Title: We Are Pain and What Cures Pain, Both
Author: Brigdh

I've yet to write one word of any of the papers I have due next week, but I have finished the last stage!

We Are Pain and What Cures Pain, Both- Saiyuki, R, Sanzo/Gojyo/Hakkai/Goku, 5/5.

I'll make a single post of these and put them up in the fic communities in a little while, but uh, what fic communities should I use? I don't really follow any of them. Rana already recommend [livejournal.com profile] saiyukiyaoi, but does anyone else have any thoughts?

Recs Post

brigdh: (orange paper airplanes)
I've been saving these up for a while, so you get quite a few today. I'd been planning to wait until [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove finished, so I could rec those stories too, but I'm afraid I'll start forgetting things I wanted to link to, and probably have already. I'll just have to do a special [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove edition next week.

Ficlet Series by [livejournal.com profile] kazaera. Saiyuki gen, a 250 word piece for each of the ikkou. Lovely and perfect and just right.
It is a simple truth, maybe too simple for the others to see: On the road west or in the temple at Chang'An or in the prison on the mountaintop, you are, always, only yourself.

Complementary Colors by [livejournal.com profile] ranalore. Saiyuki, Sanzo, PG. For that "five kisses" meme that was going around, six of Sanzo's kisses. God, I wanted to rec this two seconds after I read it. But the entry was flocked, and it took me a while to realize it was up on her site, too. If you only read thing I rec today, make it this one.

Fucking Youkai by [livejournal.com profile] threewalls. Saiyuki, R, Sanzo/Goku. I think I'll just quote her summary, because it's better than anything else I could come up with: Sanzo doesn't need someone else to point out he's travelling with demons.

Good Omens/Saiyuki ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] louiselux. R, gen. Crowley and Aziraphale meet up with the ikkou, and it. Is. So. Funny.
'those poor unfortunate boys', as Aziraphale insisted on calling them, although Crowley didn't see what was so unfortunate about a monk with a gun and an attitude problem, a redhead with a deathwish and mass of whirling blades, a madman who was even more polite than Aziraphale, not forgetting the teenager who also happened to be one of the most powerful beings ever to walk the earth and who was, incidentally, only kept in check by a sodding tiara.

Dinnertime by [livejournal.com profile] daegaer. Because Saiyuki and Good Omens go together too well to just do it once. Crowley feeds Sanzo.
"Are you meant to eat meat?" the man said curiously.
"What's it to you?" Sanzo said, mouth full.
"Hey, it's not my business. I just thought Buddhist priests -- you are a Buddhist priest, right?"
"What's it to you?"

Amputations by [livejournal.com profile] mrmoonpants. A Muraki/Hisoka [livejournal.com profile] fst with great, great song choices. (As always, [livejournal.com profile] fst posts are locked to members only.) ETA: By the way, I should mention that this is a fst of hate, not for a pairing. February's theme was the anti-valentine.
