Kerry conceded. Kerry conceded.

I just... how the hell is this my country? How is this my state? I don't understand how Bush could have gotten so many votes. 9% of registered Democrats in Ohio voted for Bush? Why? I don't know what to do.

And Issue One passed, the farthest reaching ban on gay marriage in the country. I want to cry. I was so sure this wouldn't happen. I was so sure that people were better than this.

*Big hugs* I'm truly horrified by this election result.

As for Issue One being passed - I just feel sickened

Me too. I can't believe it. I never thought it had a chance. It's so extreme, so appalling... I just didn't think it would pass. I feel almost betrayed. I love this city, and I love my campus- I was only this weekend telling people about how I'll miss it when I leave this spring. And this is how they feel about me?

I don't want to be here anymore. I want to leave the whole thing, the country.

It's confirmed.

OH is too damned conservative.

Not that I needed a presidential election to tell me that ... unfortunately when we had the option of leaving years ago, DH was too attached to our friends here. Now we have a kid, and the grandparents would kill us.

I question the lack of brain power of my fellow Ohioans who passed Issue One.

I really never thought it would pass. I mean, I know Ohio has such a reputation as a cow-town, but I've always lived in downtown Columbus. I'm used to the city and the ghetto and the college campuses and the artsy districts. I didn't think there was this many people who would vote for it.

And yeah. I'm seriously considering restricting my grad school application to places out of the country.

Have you seen this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/p_zeitgeist/3890.html) comment by [livejournal.com profile] p_zeitgeist? I think she's got it right about why people voted for Bush.

Aside from that, all I can say is that it gave me a moment of sheer sickness when I checked the news just now, and if I could've affected the outcome in any way I would've tried. *hugs*

Yeah, she makes a great point. I couldn't be that eleoquent today, but she says it.

But, to put it in her terms, I can't understand why this is the story people want. It's all about 'us vs them'. There's so much hate and discrimination- not just against gays, but against people of other races, other religions, other countries. The story these people want leaves no room for me to be anything other than a dyke, or a commie, or traitor, or a heathen, and I hate it.

Do you watch the Daily Show? It's like Jon Stewart said, "This country is turning out to be like that dream I have... the one where I wake up crying."

...Except that unfortunately, this nightmare is not one we can wake from.

Goddess damn it.

...And Issue One. Goddess damn it as well! It's not fair to you and so many other people, who should have the same rights as everyone else!

GODDESS DAMN IT ALL!

Aw, honey *hugs*

It's not all as bad as it seems- I mean, despite the majority of people who voted against the passage, I've never felt afraid or discriminated against by living here. Most people, I think, are good, they're just ignorant. People who would never hurt a fly, would never offend another human being, vote for things like this because they didn't really realize what it said.

And I can forgive stupidity a lot easier than I can forgive the people who wrote it and got it on the ballot knowingly.
