Hello! I'm still alive!

I'm also still in Cyprus, but the project I'm currently working on has internet access. Which, of course, I cannot resist. I don't really have enough free time to keep up with my flist or with comments, but that's no reason why I shouldn't post.

Okay, who wants photos?

This is what Cyprus looks like:

Yeah, I wish. It doesn't look anything like this where I'm living. This is Governor's Beach.

This is the landscape of the village of Athienou, where I actually am. I'd rather live on the beach.

And this is the exciting events surrounding an archaeological site:

Yeah, that's a donkey trying to have sex with a horse. He was too short to make it work, but he tried every day, gosh darn it! We were fascinated by this saga of cross-species love. At least until the stallion came and chased the donkey away.

And, for Racheline, this is a photo of me working on flotation, a process that involves washing dirt to get seeds and other tiny things:

Me and my bucket!

Mmm, mud.

So, how are y'all?

Nice pics! I got a postcard not to long ago, so thank you. I kinda feel bad for the Donkey not getting any love.

I'm glad to know postcards have been making it! The mail system here is kind of lackluster. And yeah, poor Donkey. We gave him an orange, though.

You live! :D It's been really strange not having any updates from you.

Cyprus looks wonderful; one of my old managers went there on holiday and she adored it.

I have a letter for you, and stuff from Japan, but I might as well went until you come back to New York and send it all to you then.

I do! And it's been very strange not hearing from you, or anyone else from LJ, from this end too. I felt so cut off.

There are *tons* of British tourists here for holidays. Not many Americans seem to come, though, since it's so far from us.

Eee, cool! I feel special. And I suppose I can wait until my return, though, um, I'll have a new address about a week and a half after getting there.

Hello!;-)
I'm waiting for you to go to the other site (or are you there yet?) to send a card, so you don't have them all at once and then feel letter-less:-)

Poor donkey. Hope he'll find someone to love him back:)

I am at the other site! But I continue to be here for another two weeks, so if you'd like to send something (and I'd very much appreciate it), you could.

I feel he should have spent more time hanging out with the female donkey we saw occasionally, instead of following the horses. But I guess he wanted what he wanted!

Ha! Bug sex!

It's not so much warm here as it is hot. We had a heat wave for about two weeks at the beginning of the month/end of June, where it was around 105-110 every day. Dry heat, but dude, still.

The people who have actually been out digging find lots of limestone statues here- they got a head of Artemis on Saturday, who was always my favorite- but I've been in the lab for this whole project, so I find little pieces of bone, wheat and barley grains, things like that. Um. I had a piece of glass! I was excited.

Yay, icons!

Hey there, stranger. It's been odd not having you around, but I see you've been getting all tan in lovely desolate places. I'm suitably jealous: the mediterranean climate is so delicious. If you get the chance I'd love to see more pictures.

Sooo... the exciting world of archeology, more swirling things in buckets, less Indiana Jones? *g* (Though I guess tragic interspecies lust counts for something.)

Hey, yourself. It's been strange not hearing from you as well; not being able to keep up with LJ has a way of making me feel terribly jealous. The climate here is not so much delicious as incredibly hot; it hit 43 degrees Celsius (which is about 110) a week or two ago, and I realized how much I will appreciate air-conditioning once I return to it.

Alas, archaeology these days involves very few gun-wielding Nazis. And after I spent all that time learning how to use a whip, too.

Dude, I am used to brown water too. I'm continually fascinated by the beaches here; the water's so clear you can see down for meters and meters!

And thank you! I hope your summer's going well, too.

Archaeology! I'm working on two projects- an Early/Middle Bronze Age village, which is what I was doing last month, and this month a Late Bronze Age sanctuary.

Ah, that's better. I can feel the world swinging back to something more like its proper orbit with your presence. I keep catching my brain citing Mrs. Grant's comment about Sir Thomas Bertram's protracted absence, from Mansfield Park:"I do not think we do so well without [her]."

As for the saga of the donkey and the horse, all I can say is, I can tell that you're far, far from our little world. If you (and they) were here, I can't believe that there wouldn't have been donkey/stallion fic by now. Along with crabby meta about fandom's unreasonable neglect of the mare.

Date: 2007-07-08 08:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Aw. Well, I don't think I can really take credit for any planet's orbit, but you're sweet to say so. I've missed you, too.

Hee! You know, thinking of it, I do have a photo of the stallion chasing the donkey. And then there was the day he bit him on the ass...
