Jul. 7th, 2007 09:33 amHello! I'm still alive!
I'm also still in Cyprus, but the project I'm currently working on has internet access. Which, of course, I cannot resist. I don't really have enough free time to keep up with my flist or with comments, but that's no reason why I shouldn't post.
Okay, who wants photos?
This is what Cyprus looks like:

Yeah, I wish. It doesn't look anything like this where I'm living. This is Governor's Beach.

This is the landscape of the village of Athienou, where I actually am. I'd rather live on the beach.
And this is the exciting events surrounding an archaeological site:

Yeah, that's a donkey trying to have sex with a horse. He was too short to make it work, but he tried every day, gosh darn it! We were fascinated by this saga of cross-species love. At least until the stallion came and chased the donkey away.
And, for Racheline, this is a photo of me working on flotation, a process that involves washing dirt to get seeds and other tiny things:

Me and my bucket!

Mmm, mud.
So, how are y'all?

Date: 2007-07-07 01:41 pm (UTC)Cyprus looks wonderful; one of my old managers went there on holiday and she adored it.
I have a letter for you, and stuff from Japan, but I might as well went until you come back to New York and send it all to you then.

Date: 2007-07-07 01:51 pm (UTC)There are *tons* of British tourists here for holidays. Not many Americans seem to come, though, since it's so far from us.
Eee, cool! I feel special. And I suppose I can wait until my return, though, um, I'll have a new address about a week and a half after getting there.

Poor donkey. Hope he'll find someone to love him back:)

Date: 2007-07-07 02:00 pm (UTC)I feel he should have spent more time hanging out with the female donkey we saw occasionally, instead of following the horses. But I guess he wanted what he wanted!

Date: 2007-07-08 07:37 pm (UTC)It's not so much warm here as it is hot. We had a heat wave for about two weeks at the beginning of the month/end of June, where it was around 105-110 every day. Dry heat, but dude, still.
The people who have actually been out digging find lots of limestone statues here- they got a head of Artemis on Saturday, who was always my favorite- but I've been in the lab for this whole project, so I find little pieces of bone, wheat and barley grains, things like that. Um. I had a piece of glass! I was excited.
Yay, icons!

Date: 2007-07-07 06:18 pm (UTC)Sooo... the exciting world of archeology, more swirling things in buckets, less Indiana Jones? *g* (Though I guess tragic interspecies lust counts for something.)

Date: 2007-07-08 08:04 pm (UTC)Alas, archaeology these days involves very few gun-wielding Nazis. And after I spent all that time learning how to use a whip, too.

Date: 2007-07-07 09:21 pm (UTC)As for the saga of the donkey and the horse, all I can say is, I can tell that you're far, far from our little world. If you (and they) were here, I can't believe that there wouldn't have been donkey/stallion fic by now. Along with crabby meta about fandom's unreasonable neglect of the mare.

Date: 2007-07-08 08:26 pm (UTC)Hee! You know, thinking of it, I do have a photo of the stallion chasing the donkey. And then there was the day he bit him on the ass...
