Winter Solstice
Dec. 21st, 2006 12:34 amHow sad is it that the thing I am looking forward to more than any other Christmas/winter holiday event is
yuletide stories going up? I can't believe we have to wait another four days! And then people will expect me to talk to them and do family things, and I will only want to read all the brand new stories.
Of course, I'm not much of a Christmas person in general. I could transfer my love to the solstice instead, and try to get joy out of celebrating the return of the sun, but that doesn't work too well when winter is always much worse after the shortest day than before it. Or at least it's worked that way everywhere I've ever lived.
Despite that, today (since it is a bit after midnight) is the solstice, so happy Yule, everyone. You've got to take a bit of fun from winter- hot chocolate and heavy blankets and watching snow from safe inside a warm room- or you could just huddle down and indulge in the misery of it. When you only have a few hours of sunlight, it's perfect for both sulking or having a good time.
