How sad is it that the thing I am looking forward to more than any other Christmas/winter holiday event is [livejournal.com profile] yuletide stories going up? I can't believe we have to wait another four days! And then people will expect me to talk to them and do family things, and I will only want to read all the brand new stories.

Of course, I'm not much of a Christmas person in general. I could transfer my love to the solstice instead, and try to get joy out of celebrating the return of the sun, but that doesn't work too well when winter is always much worse after the shortest day than before it. Or at least it's worked that way everywhere I've ever lived.

Despite that, today (since it is a bit after midnight) is the solstice, so happy Yule, everyone. You've got to take a bit of fun from winter- hot chocolate and heavy blankets and watching snow from safe inside a warm room- or you could just huddle down and indulge in the misery of it. When you only have a few hours of sunlight, it's perfect for both sulking or having a good time.

Yay Yule! I suck at celebrating Wiccan holidays though. I just sort of sit around feeling like I should be doing something. Either that or I forget entirely. I fail at being religious.

But yay Yuletide as well.

Whee, Yuletide!

Yule's not Wiccan, it's Viking. *G* Or did you mean the Solstice? Which still isn't Wiccan, but Wiccans do celebrate it (among others ;-).

Wicca's taken holidays from all over. At least one of my books on the subject (the only one I have on hand) talks about Yule.

Hee! Well, I did watch it (on TV) last night, so if you watched it too, we were watching it together in spirit!

I've never done actual celebrations for the winter solstice, but I always like to notice it, instead of letting it go by without comment.

I like winter. ^^; I despise summer, and spring and autumn always mean rain, rain, rain. I like walking in the early mornings, bundled up and watching my breath cloud in the air.

...I'm nuts, I know.

Nah, I don't think you're nuts. I know far, far more people who prefer winter to summer than who share my point of view, which is why I have to complain so much: I have to make up for the imbalance of numbers.

You manage to make it sound lovely though. I can almost understand why you'd like it. *grins*

That I knew, but I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you meant Yuletide had originated with Wicca. Sorry about that. *G*
