[livejournal.com profile] tad_coast reminded me that I hadn't signed up for [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove yet, and I realized what pairing I should write: Sanzo/Gojyo/Hakkai/Goku. Because, yes, I am crazy.

But [livejournal.com profile] tad_coast and I are the only ones writing for Saiyuki, and there's also only two people signed up for YnM pairings. What are you people doing? Go sign up! I need stuff to read, too.

You've got until the 30th. Here's the list of pairings already taken, and here's the post to claim your own.

In other news, I got my first package from the BPAL lab today. Exciting! Especially since I didn't expect to get it for another month. I have all sorts of wonderful news smells to try now, and then I can join everyone else in crowding your flists with review posts.

Believe me when I say that Weiss is one of those sources to which no amount of discussion would do justice. It makes Yami look downright coherent, and rather cheerful, though it has its own humor (the edge of hysteria kind). Four or five episodes would only give you the barest taste, and my urge to make all of fandom watch it is probably akin to my urge to say, "Look, is that someone on the wing?" when on an airplane with my best friend, who is terrified of flying. Apparently, I want to be a paramecium in my next life.

Oh, I'd be willing to watch it, if only to have a better idea of who the Weiss team are. (Schwarz is easy to keep track of, oddly enough.) But I saw some stills and some plotline summaries a while back, and there wasn't enough of a visceral grab for me to make an effort to get the episodes (unlike YnM, FMA and Saiyuki Reload and Gunlock, in all of which I was willing to invest major time and effort pretty much at first glance).

Who knows? If I ever saw it it might run me over after all. It certainly inspires great stories from my flist, despite the odd way that the art and summaries of the thing itself have failed to call out to me. I certainly don't think pushing it is the equivalent of tormenting people who are afraid of flying.

And hey, YnM is cheerful. The contrast between the good cheer and the actual content is one of the gloriously cracked-out aspects that makes me love it.

I think Weiss might have been the first anime I actually heard about after getting involved in online fandom, and for years I wasn't interested, despite indications there were elements that would be right up my alley. Then I decided, sometime last year, that I wanted more familiarity with more sources, so as to better explore trends and archetypes across fandoms (meta is my heart, apparently). It made sense to me to start with Weiss. Little did I know that there were superkinks waiting to waylay me in the midst of the crack. I don't know if I know anyone who was grabbed by it right off the way I've been grabbed by fandoms and the way you describe, yet it gets in your blood if you're wired for it.

Possibly even more than Yami, though, Weiss is a fandom of potential. So really? A decent person would feel bad about making someone watch it who wasn't already interested. I'm just glad I'm not a decent person. Gets in the way of pimping too much. *G*
