A bit of advice for all you people who work in colleges/other places that require applications:

If you ever happen to find yourself, just as an example, because certainly no one has said this to me, saying, "In your letter to me outline what you have done and what you want to do," you may want to consider giving more specific instructions, as such a description in no way is going to help the person you're talking to understand what type of thing you're looking for. In case you forget this helpful hint, the person may ask for more details. But remember, a useful answer is not, "The letter should be 2-3 pages. I will show it to others."

Just, you know, in case you happen to find yourself in this situation.

How helpful! XP My friends are trying to figure how much detail to put in their grad school apps and were thinking the more the better ("I plan to write a program that will perform such and such" rather than "I like astronomy"), but hell, it's not like any of us here know what we're doing. We tend to be more worried about whether the grad schools/med schools/other trade schools will cut us some slack on our GPA issues.

Heh. *grins* I especially like the fact that, without a font size or instructions as to single-spaced or double-spaced, I don't even have a length requirement. I mean, I assume he wants size 12 with double-spacing, but who knows? Googling whatever questions I could come up with has managed to allow me to come up with the theory that he's probably looking for a Statement of Purpose type thing, but I still could have used some more instructions from him.

I feel your pain! It's the GREs that have really been bothering me. I got my scores a few months ago, but I have *not* been able to find one single site anywhere that tells me which scores are good, which are average, and which are bad. Even school applications won't tell me the average scores of the applicants they accept. It's driving me crazy!
