Well, the first season of the anime is apparently awful on the animation front, but I'm told it gets better. And the storyline and characters are just...yeah. So much good. And if you need the rest of the manga, let me know. I've got the scans.
Lost Boys is quintessential '80s teen horror. SoCal vampires, dude. *G* Ladyhawke is a gorgeous medieval fairy tale with an over-synthesized soundtrack, but again, '80s. The Last Starfighter is a cult classic, and more modern sf movies and television shows rip it off than you'd think given its current obscurity.
Um, nope. I haven't seen many 80s movies at all, and they always tend to come up in conversation with the express purpose of leaving me with nothing to say. *grins*
I have seen the Bill and Ted movies! Look- I'm not completely culturally ignorant. *grins*
Ferris Bueller I suppose I should see at some point. It was one of my best friend's favorite movies for the longest time, but we don't have much the taste in movies, so I never watched it.
Oh, you've got to see Ferris Bueller. It's hysterical, and rather ubiquitous in geek culture. That one and Ladyhawke made Matthew Broderick's career.
The other John Hughes movie I recommend is Some Kind of Wonderful. It's pretty standard '80s teen flick fare, but Eric Stoltz is just breathtaking in it, and Elias Koteas is hilarious (the two also co-starred in The Prophecy, which I can't remember if I already recommended or not, but hermaphroditic angels! In black trenchcoats! And Viggo Mortensen as the devil).
The Prophecy! I first watched that movie in the middle of the night with a big group of friends, in that state of tired and silly that almost the same as being drunk. We went around for months afterwards randomly shouting "I love you more than Jesus!" to each other.
*snort* It's a truly cheesetastic movie, but I love it.
Actually, that reminds me, have you seen the original Highlander movie? The creator of The Prophecy is the one who put that together, and as I love Connor MacLeod and detest Duncan, I pimp that movie to anyone who might not have seen it.
I actually haven't seen any of Highlander, movie or TV shows. I really should; it seems like one of those fandoms everyone needs to know at least a little about.
Don't see any of the movies but the first one. For the fandom, it actually seems more useful to be acquainted with the series. I can't abide the main character, but quite a few of the supporting characters are wonderful fun. I have suspicion you'd quite like Methos. *G*
