Viz has translated one of Tsuzuki's line as: "Oh, snap."

...that is so very, very gay that it hurts me.

And later Hisoka accuses him of playing "grab ass" with Muraki, and I laughed so hard I think I broke something.

Alas, no. Though he does walk into their suite at one point and yells, "Honey, I'm home!"

You've already got yours?! DAMN YOU! *flames*

Actually, damn Waldenbooks and their lazy-assed system.

^^ I got mine from Waldenbooks, actually. They're the only company around here that carries it anywhere near to the release date- the local Barnes & Nobles and such didn't pick up the first two volumes for weeks and weeks.

It doesn't offically come out til tomorrow, but I've found that if you really want a book, you can generally get it a few days early just by showing up at the bookstore. As long as it's not a hugely expected book like Harry Potter, it tends to work.

I've been calling and going forever and they know me well. So, that doesn't always work. They have it in the computer but they haven't got it in the stock room at all.

; . ;

Though tomorrow I'm going to the doctor and it IS on the way... *evil look*

Fwefwefwe...

Ooh! Did the translate the poker scene okay? It'd be sacrilege if they change Muraki's "high skill tactics" line.

It all sounds amusing, though.

It's alright. They changed all of Muraki's taunts to "my poppet" instead of puppet or doll, which is kind of... weird, but the rest of it works fine.

Wow, seriously, even the translators realizes how gay Tsuzuki is. XD

(Please tell me he uses this when he's losing at poker? Because that would be just perfect.)

Poppet? That actually makes it kind of funny. Like Muraki's all Pirates of the Carribean of stepped his molestin'-self out of the Crucible. o_O;

Actually, that just gave me an idea.

"Hello, Poppet."

....XD

According to Dictionary.com:

pop·pet ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ppt)
n.
A poppet valve.
Nautical.
A small wooden strip on a gunwale that forms or supports an oarlock.
One of the beams of a launching cradle supporting a ship's hull.
Chiefly British. A darling.

[Middle English popet, small child, doll, puppet. See puppet.]

And now I am seeing Muraki as this:

"Good day, Tsuzuki-san, ol'chap, would you like a spot of tea?"

*dies*

*laughs* Exactly. It's like the 'double entendre' count on the DVD's pop-up video: the subtext of this series escapes no one.

Sadly, no. It's when Hojo-san (the actress) is explaining that she stole the bracelet from Wakabayashi because "a body like this doesn't come cheap!" During the poker scene, he just blushes and stammers and, really, doesn't seem to mind Muraki groping him very much.

*grins* Me too, that's the best part. Though occasionally Viz has changed things in ways I don't like, I adore most of the dialouge. Foul-mouthed Hisoka makes me so happy.

Ummm, apologies for being the village idiot, but I don't get the link between "Oh, snap" and "gay". What does "Oh, snap" mean, and is there some context of its usage (ie TV show or similar) that I'm missing out on? (Note: the only things I see on TV are The Simpsons and whatever happens to be on Sky Sport - ie what my son and partner watch, respectively!)

The definition and usual usage I know of "poppet" is the first one you highlighted (apart from it being brand of chocolate sweets with assorted centres).

Maaaaan, Muraki referring to Hisoka as "poppet" rather than "puppet"!! The wrongness, it burns!!!! >_

...I think I'm too amused to be offended. Why, yes, I am. (What's the ISBN #, could you look? I want to order from Amazon but they're so messed up I want to make sure I don't order the wrong thing.)

Oh, no worries- and it's quite likely that it's an American thing and not a British thing, so you couldn't have known it.

"Oh, snap" refers to snapping your fingers, and it's something to say after a particularly well-phrased insult. It's basically a compliment on how bitchy someone has managed to be. "Burn!" was a similar phrase in use when I was younger. It's not from any particular TV or movie (although now that I think about it, there might have been a sketch on 'In Living Color' that used it), but it most definitely carries the connotations of something only a flamingly gay man would say, like the people on 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy'. It's a subculture specific term, much like "Sista please, you best step off" would be (though for a much different subculture, obviously).

Other than the Ichirou thing, I've been likely the translations generally. They tend to follow fairly closely to theria.net's versions, and although they've been a few changes that disappointed me, overall the biggest difference is a more natural sound to the English.

I'd been planning to order mine off of Amazon when they first started coming out, but even weeks after the first one had been released, Amazon was still showing it as unavailable. And then I found that the Walden Books near me carried them at a reasonable time, so I've just been getting mine from there. And they were having a buy three, get one free sale the first two times I bought manga there, but alas, it seems to be over now. ;_;

Amazon is a terrible place to buy manga, I only do it if (as now) I have a credit or want to jack up to free shipping.

A poppet is also the old English term for a voodoo doll: a creepy little thing that represents your enemy, which you can stick pins into.
