I grabbed Tsuzuki for the character soundtracks over at [livejournal.com profile] fst, and I was just wondering: does anyone have any song recs for him? It'd be particularly helpful if you had some happy ones, but any would be good, really. And feel free to rec shippy songs too- Tatsumi/Tsuzuki, Muraki/Tsuzuki, Hisoka/Tsuzuki, whatever.

^^ Any suggestions?

Ooo, very nice one. I hadn't heard of this before you rec'd it, but now I really want to find a copy of it. ^^

Nouvelle Vague's version of "I Melt With You" is very happy!Hisoka/Tsuzuki to me. The Whitlams' "Make the World Safe". Dar Williams' cover of "Better Things", Tommy february6's "I'm in the mood for dancing", The Reputation's "Follow-Through Time", Poxy's "Sweet Tooth", My Friend the Chocolate Cake's "It's All in the Way" and/or "The Romp" (instrumental).

"I think I'm paranoid" - Garbage
"Ice Cream" - Sarah McLachlan (Tsuzuki/Hisoka)
"All You Wanted" - Michelle Branch (Tatsumi/Tsuzuki)
"Tourniquet" - Evanescence

First three are happy(ish), the last is... not, but is my ultimate Tsuzuki song. I think it captures Kyoto and broken Tsuzuki so perfectly. All of these are going on my own soundtrack, which, dammit, I WILL put up later today. If you need any of them, I can send them to you. ^_^

Oh, very nice choices! And I love "Ice Cream" for Tsuzuki and Hisoka... have you heard the acoustic version of it? I like it even better than the regular one.

The Alfee, "Dark Side Meditation" for Tsuzuki. I used to have a sheet of translation, I'll have to dig it up when the grannybox decides to kindly boot again... it made sense lyrically(!), and IIRC, Tsuzuki is a canon fan of The Alfee, so... *koff* Ye-ah. Ahum.

For Muraki and Hisoka... "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)", David Bowie. It worked, once upon a time. Really, honest. ._.;

Oh, hmm. I've never heard that song, but it sounds like it'd be good. I'll have to try and scrounge up a copy somewhere.

And hee! Good choice, there, it really does work.

How? by John Lennon. Not that upbeat, but the lyrics are so Tsuzuki, and it has this mood of subtle angst.

Watching the Wheels is very Tsuzuki too. It has the "I'm a slacker, but I like it!" thing.

It's a Sin, Pet Shop Boys. I can't help but think of Tsuzuki every time I hear that.

It's Probably Me by Sting, Tsuzuki/Hisoka song.

Pretty When You Cry, VAST. SO Muraki/Tsuzuki.

All the rest I have are too obscure to mention ^_^;;

*_* Very nice recs- I never would have thought to look up some of these groups.

And I'd always though of "Pretty When You Cry" as a Muraki/Hisoka song, but you're right, it works for Tsuzuki too.

I just friended you, so I thought I'd leave a comment saying hi ;)

Unforgivable Sinner by Lene Marlin is a good Tsuzuki theme song, with a bit of a reference to someone who could be Ruka, I guess. It isn't exactly cheery though.

Rapture by Ilo is pretty Tsuzuki themed too. Sugar references abound, and it's happy. Ish.

Oh, oh- it might not be cheery, but that song is perfect! Thank you so much.

I think of Grant Lee Buffalo's "Honey, Don't Think" as Tsuzuki to Hisoka in Kyoto, although it works almost as well for Tsuzuki & Tatsumi or Watari.

There's a Tatsumi/Tsuzuki song I really like, but if I tell it to you, Boni will probably kill me. Or I hope she would, because she should be working on that vid, damnit.

Oh, good suggestion- I have that song, but I hadn't thought of it. It does work very well, though.

Aww. And Tatsumi's the one I'm having the hardest time finding a song for.

"The Fine Art of Falling Apart" by Matthew Good Band has always struck me as rather Tsuzuki/Hisoka from Tsuzuki's POV. Also, MGB's "Weapon," which I find inspirational for a lot of my fandoms, but which works stunningly well for any Shinigami.

The Vienna Teng song Boni used in her music vid, the name of which I don't think I've ever learned. "Overcome?" The Go-Gos' cover of "I Want Candy," for really goofy crack!addled Tsuzuki/Hisoka.

The Smashing Pumpkins' "Disarm," of course. A-ha's "Scoundrel Days" is another one that could work pretty well for several of the Shinigami. Also, Counting Crows' "'Round Here."

It's a start.

The Vienna Teng song is "Momentum," but if you want something slightly less familiar but still Tsuzuki/Hisoka, I'd go with "Gravity."

"Walking Wounded" and "Requiem" both by The Tea Party is Tsuzuki completely to me. Also "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails /Johnny Cash/whichever version you'd prefer (Cash's version is slightly... cleaner, I suppose ¬_¬).

*cough* I found a few more. *cough* ¬_¬

"Hello", "Imaginary" and "Whisper" by Evanescence are are extremely good depressed!Tsuzuki ones. "The Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel also has a Tsuzuki-like feel to it.

I swear I'll stop now. *shifty eyes*

Most of my cheery ones have been mentioned already (Ice Cream by Sarah M 'specially), but here's a few more of the not-so-cheery variety...

"Darkness, Darkness" by The Youngbloods -- a great Depressed!Tsuzuki song;

"Hallelujah," specifically the cover by Rufus Wainwright on the Shrek soundtrack, really makes me think of Tsuzuki, and I especially like the line "I used to live alone before I knew you," which seems very Tsuzuki/Hisoka-ish to me;

"Blood and Roses" by the Smithereens, which has got to be the ultimate Yami no Matsuei song in general, with all that dark gothic imagery it's got. (IMHO, natch. ;)

Off now to look up the Grant Lee Buffalo lyrics. I have the album and had honestly never thought of that song in terms of Tsuzuki/Hisoka, so now I've got to go check it out.

:) Alex

Thank you! These are some wonderful choices. I'll certainly be downloading them. Especially the "Blood and Roses" one- that one's lyrics fit perfectly.

And I do like the Grant Lee Buffalo song- I agree that it's very Tsuzuki. 'Happiness' also seems to fit him.
