Hey, remember when I used to do this 'Watching Monday' thing? I thought I'd start again. Well, without going back to catch up, because it's been several months and I've watched a lot in that time. But here's what I watched in the last week:

Bahubali
A really fantastic Indian movie, a remix of mythic tropes with more modern ideas, and all of it visually amazing. There were so many characters I loved: the fierce rebel woman! the middle-aged Queen, raising babies with one hand and cutting dudes' throats with the other! the elderly warrior, enslaved by a promise to always serve the throne! It's still showing in the NYC market, at least, and I very much recommend watching it if you get the opportunity.
(A warning: it does have a wicked cliffhanger, and Part 2 doesn't come out until next year.)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
I've watched the first... three episodes? four episodes? of this so far and am enjoying it. It's not mind-blowing, but it's funny and sweet and totally the right sort of thing to put on when I don't want to devote too much attention to the TV.

Pride and Prejudice
Yes, the BBC miniseries from the 90s! I've somehow never seen this before, and so decided to get on that. I've only watched the first two episodes so far, but I like it. The characterization seems a bit shallower than in the book, but it really is capturing the humor. I've laughed so many times.

On a totally unrelated note, what the hell has happened to the LJ friends page? It's terrible looking and I can't figure out how to change it back.

I had trouble with the LJ display, too. I had to click on the thing saying I was willing to try the new interface. Then it let me pick a layout and set things like how many posts I want on a page (and that I want pages instead of infinite scrolling). I had to try three or four times to get the settings to take hold, and I'm not completely happy with the color scheme I ended up with. The interface will try to show you layouts that you have to pay for, so you have to dig a little to find the free layouts.

Thank you! I can't quite seem to find the layouts, but at least I managed to turn off infinite scroll, which is a vast improvement.

Yaaay, you saw Baahubali! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I think the queen regent and the kidnapped princess were my favorite characters.

I loved it! And yes, the kidnapped princess was AMAZING, though I couldn't quite figure out how to explain her in a brief phrase (and was feeling too lazy to type out anything longer). But the twigs! The red eyes! The determination! It reminded me of my favorite parts of Draupadi's story.

Yes! She's GATHERING THE TWIGS FOR HER ENEMY'S FUNERAL PYRE. And she won't escape because she's waiting for her son to bust her out! Truly epic. It was like Draupadi not pinning up her hair until she could WASH IT IN DUSHASANA'S BLOOD.

What! You have only just seen THAT Pride And Prejudice? Colin Firth was the sexiest Mr Darcy ever to wander across the screen and they knew it and made sure the women had something to drool over. Wait till you've seen the wet shirt scene... ;-) I know, not in the novel, but who cares? If you have seen Lost In Austen, there's a tribute to that scene...

Ha, I know, I'm so far behind everyone else. And I've heard of the wet shirt scene! I'm looking forward to it.

Actually, I'm kind of jealous. The first time is special. I bought a copy of the DVD some years ago and got the script author, Andrew Davies(visiting Melbourne for the Writer's Festival) to sign it. (I'd seen it, but didn't have a copy)Then I binged on it while a home with a sprained ankle. Very comforting!
