"The (Very) Big Bird Job": Portland? Are they going to pretend to be hipsters? Because that would be hilarious. OMG IT'S A MICROBREWERY THEY ARE HIPSTERS. "Thief juice!" OMG ELIOT IS A FOODIE (I mean, obviously, but this is still hilarious). "The Tony Stark of the 40s?" Haaaaaaaaaa but accurate. Oh, man, I totally want Sophie to buy a theater. Hahaha, Eliot spit out the beer! And then dun dun dun!: mysterious ending!

Game of Thrones
I disapprove of the new Daario actor. Daario needs to look like he could be in a boyband. I'm not sure if I like Oberyn yet.

Bronn was awesome! I love the scene with Joffrey and the Book of Brothers. However, I don't think I liked the Tyrion/Shae scene. She seemed more petty than how I think of her, and I wish Tyrion had been more tempted or sympathetic to her rather than just pushing her off.

TOTALLY SHIPPING BRIENNE/MARGAERY NOW. I'm also shipping Dany/Missandei. I was shipping them in the books before I read more closely and realized that Missandei is, like, eight. Even if Dany is 14 that's too sketchy for me. I approve of the show aging her up.

I find it really interesting how similar the last scene with Arya was to the newly-released chapter. Was the reason they released it last week just to get it out ahead of this episode, I wonder?

Oh, Ser Dontos. You were almost kinda sweet here. Alas for your future.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
I am generally not much of a Wes Anderson fan, and saw this movie only because I was with others. But I liked it much more than I expected to! I don't normally dislike his movies, exactly; it's just that I find them unengaging and tend to occasionally zone out while watching them. But this one worked much better for me, probably because of the book-end train scenes which give everything between them so much more depth. The first in particular made my throat tight- apparently I have a particular horror of that situation, where you thought you could protect someone but such turns out not to be the case. And then the second, nearly identical scene, was very much the perfect answer.

Anyway. I recommend it! It's a very pretty movie too, of course.

And I got to see the trailer for Belle, which I am so excited for!

Yes, it seemed like they swapped show!Shae for book!Shae, who is generally less nuanced.

Also, Tyrion was stupid not to ask her more about her accusation of giving her jewels to leave (IIRC the offer came from Varys last season; natural that she'd see it as a Tyrion ruse) - classic case of "character fails to ask question any real person would ask, to perpetuate plot". It's a shame because I like the extra machinations they've written in involving Varys, but when they add stuff they should have other characters respond in character. Tyrion is sensibly paranoid and would totally pursue that.

Yes, exactly. Which I suppose they might be doing, to set up for events later this season. But I very much hope they're not, as I greatly prefer show!Shae.

I sort of gave that a pass, as she left the room before he had a chance to ask, but if they don't follow it up soon I will be annoyed. I hate those sorts of silly misunderstandings.

I don’t think I ever commented here before, so I’m using Game of thrones as a reason to jump in. I so very much agree about Daario, the flower scene would have been much more fun if it was Daario of last season; this new one just doesn’t feel right.

I think having Oberyn in King’s Landing causing trouble will be great and I look forward to seeing how he will be portrayed in the series.

Also, hello :) I friended you because you write about books and literature. Sorry for keeping silent so long!

No worries! I can also be very much a lurker. :)

And yes, I'm really looking forward to more of Oberyn! He's one of my favorite minor characters. (I'm even more excited for when the Sand Snakes show up.)

I am puzzled by Daario's recast to no end. But, I suppose, in a cast as big as GoT, it was bound to happen to someone. Still, new Daario is very much not to my tastes.

Ohh, that Belle trailer! I am excited. Also, /facepalm at Tom Felton playing yet another bigoted aristocrat.

Me and my friend were trying to figure out why. Having both worked in the industry, we concluded that the most likely answer is that the original actor has a drug problem. Who knows, though.

I LOVED the premiere. Loved that they didn't cut the bisexuality, and actually showed us Oberyn's while Martin only told it to us. I think that was the first WHORES WHORES WHORES scene that I actually liked. And Arya's acting was amazing. I was waiting for that scene for literally years, and it totally lived up to my expectations.

I am concerned that Dany's plotline will bore and annoy me, as it has now hit the point where it bored and annoyed me in the books. I do like Missandei and Grey Worm. And the dragons!

I love Oberyn, I love his and Ellaria's bisexuality and open relationship and how committed they are to each other, without being married. They're both really great and I want all the focus on them. Also, I can't wait until the Sand Snakes show up (though I assume that won't be until next season at least, alas). The Arya scene was also fantastic! I loved everyone's expressions.

I quite like Dany's plotline coming up, though I know a lot of people don't. I am interested to see what changes the show will make, though.

Glad to know it's not only me!

Ha, I didn't even recognize Tom Felton until I saw his name listed!

"That little pretzel cart is both delicious and Interpol" Interpol makes great pretzel, Hardison knows this from experience. It's a good thing Eliot is around to help with the brewery because Hardison is not so good at anything that isn't orange soda.

Bronn is always great. I do not like what they are doing with Shae :( I loved her being friends with Sansa. Ngl, I ended up shipping Grey Worm/Missandei, due to that one glance, but I also like Dany/Missandei. (She's EIGHT? I don't read the books, but what. How good a transaltor can someone be at age 8?)

Belle looks so so great!

Yes! That was a fantastic little aside. I loved all of Eliot's critiques of Hardison's menu.

That's an excellent point! 8 year olds aren't generally that great at communicating in one language, much less managing to translate.
