Mar. 4th, 2014 05:24 pmHappy Mardi Gras!
Since flinging beads and sharing King Cake is much less satisfying virtually, how about a meme?
1. Comment with any character you know I've written.
2. Receive three bits of trivia about their sexuality: practices, preferences, experiences, fantasies, kinks, etc.
3. Profit!

Date: 2014-03-05 01:51 am (UTC)Hannibal:
1. Reeeeeeeeally into giving oral. Despite it being a bit out of the mainstream for 1830s sexual practices. Really.
2. Although he's pretty much willing to do anything the person he's with is into, he does not actually enjoy bondage, having been tied up/handcuffed/shackled for real a few too many times.
3. Doesn't do monogamy well, mostly because he's afraid to make that serious of a commitment. He doesn't want anyone to rely on him alone, because he thinks he is sure to fail them. But if they're sleeping with other people, it feels safer- he's not the only one who will be there for his partner. But also flirting is 95% of how he relates to people and sex is just another way of having fun with someone, so to him sleeping with Person A has nothing to do with how much he loves Person B.

Date: 2014-03-06 09:25 pm (UTC)But ha, yes: FLOGGING PARLOR, WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT? Because other things I think Hannibal is not actually into: pain, humiliation, name-calling. He's sort of vanilla for all his talk.
*eeeeager*

Date: 2014-03-06 10:23 pm (UTC)But yes, re: light pain for sensation. All three of them are more about "loud and enthusiastic consent is super sexy; I love how into this you are". I could see D/s play of the sort that's not about domination or discipline and more about trust and willingness to obey. Like, I don't think Hannibal would have any problem getting down on his knees and calling them "Sir" or "Madam".
(Which, relatedly, have I told you my thoughts on tu vs vous?)

Date: 2014-03-06 11:01 pm (UTC)So for a fic I was trying to figure out if Ben and Hannibal tend to speak English or French to each other, all other factors (like other people listening or particular topics or whatever) being equal*. Which naturally led me to wondering if they use tu or vous. Ben rants multiple times about how much he hates it when white men use tu to him, which I think means Hannibal must not– even if Hannibal didn't realize the implications, surely Ben would mention it as something that irritates him, if Hannibal did it? Besides, Hannibal has a formal/complicated/polite manner of speaking in general, so 'vous' seems to go with how he talks.
But, on the other hand, they're close enough friends that tu also seems likely. Even if they wouldn't use it at the beginning of the series, surely by the later books where they're all proclaiming love and risking their lives for one another and whatnot, a tu is nothing compared to that.
Which has led to my conclusion that Ben calls Hannibal tu and Hannibal calls Ben vous. And they're both secretly extremely happy with this: Ben thinks ":D look how much he respects and values me!" and Hannibal goes ":D look how much he likes and is intimate with me!". I'm not sure about Rose; I could see her having the same set-up, but she seems less in need of external validation than Ben is, so she probably wouldn't mind if Hannibal called her tu. And she also is fairly formal in speech, so she might call him vous.
*Still haven't made up my mind on the issue. I think Rose tends to default to French, but Ben and Hannibal seem equally at home in either one.
