I have missed posting about three weeks of this! On the other hand, most of my TV shows have been on hiatus, so I haven't actually had that much to post about.

Extremely brief movie reviews:
American Hustle: Eh. I liked the concept a lot (conmen! How could I not like it?), but found the execution fairly boring. Acting was very good, though.
Frozen: Lovely and wonderful and had fantastic music, but I wouldn't say it's the best Disney movie in the last twenty years, like some reviews have been arguing.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: There were a lot of great individual scenes or images or elements, but overall I was pretty disappointed. (However, I did see the movie while sick and high on cold medicine, so possibly I'm not the most objective viewer.) I still think this should have been one or two movies instead of three.

Leverage
OMG THIS SHOW IS AMAZING HOW HAVE I NEVER WATCHED THIS BEFORE?? I love Hardison and "Age of the geek, baby" and "Well, somebody got to fight the injured, shoot, that's my niche.", I love Eliot and "I don't like guns", I love strange, strange Parker, I love Sophie and her terrible acting and coaching Eliot on how to flirt.
I love the entire idea of the show. It's ridiculous and over-the-top and completely unrealistic, but the entire premise is how insurance companies and banks and big companies are evil, and our team of conmen will fight for individuals. I was reading something recently that described the mystery genre as "fantasies of justice", and that is such the perfect description of Leverage.
(Also, I have only seen up to episode 1.06- "The Stork Job", about the Serbian orphanage- so no spoilers past that, please.)

I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU'VE NEVER WATCHED LEVERAGE BEFORE YOUR LIFE HAS BEEN VASTLY DEPRIVED

This show is the best show. It is so, so great. I'm forever amazed at how consistently good and fun it is. (Is that a spoiler? I don't think it is.)

You must post reviews as you keep watching, seriously. (Edit because I accidentally a word.)

I THINK I WILL YES. (HARDISON JUST TOLD PARKER SHE LOOKED PRETTY IN TERRIBLE BRIDESMAID DRESS AND THEN SHE PRETENDED TO BE MEETING UP WITH HIM FOR SEX TO FOOL THE MOB BOSS.)

it gets BETTER as it goes

♥! Shows aren't allowed to GET BETTER. That's not how it works!

"Fantasy of justice" also applies very well to Ben January. Just sayin'.

Leverage is SO amazing. It was the best kept secret on TV. Consistently great writing; I mean, really great. You'll notice the more you watch, how powerfully the overall "con of the week" drama parallels the personal dramas of the team as each of their stories is explored more and more, which simultaneously brings them closer and closer together. It is a seriously beautiful thing to watch. I'm really excited you're digging it. More people should be made to sit down and watch it. They'll wonder why they were ever putting up with lesser TV shows!

I'm very much enjoying the silliness of many of the cons so far (the one about the ban robbery was particularly great) but I also look forward to exploring the characters more. I'm just loving this show!

YES HARDISON. YES EVERYTHING!!

I love the Serbian orphanage ep so much. Do you know what is amazing? All the dialogue in Serbian is not just grammatically accurate - it's also non-stilted and very entertaining. (like my brothers watched the ep like a year ago but still quote Parker's "shiny tomato!" line). There's some details that are wrong - Haagen-Dazs isn't well-known here (basically the only chocolate everyone knows is Milka) but overall it's really respectful and I love that the ep writers put the effort into it. As they usually do!

jssjjsaiasj in conclusion I AM SO HAPPY YOU'RE WATCHING IT AND PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED.

That is really neat! I suspect the Haagen-Dazs bit was just there because it sounds, well, not-English (I was going to say because it's German, but I have just googled it and apparently it's just a made-up word intended to sound vaguely foreign! MY ICE CREAM WORLDVIEW IS SHATTERED.) since it's not a type of ice cream I'd expect American children to be into either. But I'm very glad to know that it seemed well-done to you, since it seemed a fair take on the issue to me, but it's hardly something I know very much about.

IT IS SO GOOD. There will definitely be updates!
