So, since I've been in India, I've been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer (well, re-watching for me; watching for the other two archaeologists and various other people involved). Because obviously, if one is in a place with no TV, no radio, no newspapers, and no internet, it's not a bad idea to pack lots of entertainment so one has something to do in the evening. Which, valid argument for the field! But we've continued to work our way through the show since returning to the cities, because BUFFY IS AWESOME, that's why.

Tara's decision to leave Willow after finding out about the memory spell is one of the reasons I love her character so much. It is absolutely, 100%, the right decision, but it's such a mature, adult decision that I feel like it's surprising for that very reason. People on TV (books/movies/etc) so often go for the more dramatic decision, the more angsty decision, particularly in regards to romantic relationships, that to see someone actually doing the smart thing feels rare.

And then the next episode Tara has to spend the night with Dawn anyway because no one else bothers to come home. WHY ARE YOU THE ONLY ADULT ON THIS SHOW, TARA, WHY, ILOVEYOU. It's also great to watch her conversation with Dawn about her break-up with Willow, as opposed to Willow's conversation with Dawn on the same topic. Tara handles it like a grown-up, reminding Dawn that it's not her fault, not getting too emotional, being, well, a grown-up. And Willow just begs for reassurance and is inappropriate.

It's really amazing, in retrospect, how fantastic the Willow/magic arc is for the first eight episodes of the season. There's the resurrection spell, where Willow specifically expresses that her goal was to make Buffy feel grateful; the excellent Willow/Giles argument; there's both the memory spells; there's the comment she makes about Tara leaving "for no good reason". And then you get episode 8, Smashed, which is a little odd, okay, but workable. Annnnnnd then episode 10, Wrecked, and it's just- you buy magic in a crack den, Amy's stealing weedsage, Willow's got the DTs, people are twitchy and scratching themselves, there's a DUI, it's all terrible. I can't believe how fast that plotline goes from awesome and in-character to bizarre.

On the other hand, house-destroying sex. So it's not like the episode is all bad!

OMG YOU ARE REMINDING ME OF ALL MY SEASON 6 FEELS. Suffice it to say: I LOVE TARA. AND DESTROYING HOUSES AND YEAH

I should probably go back to making that s6 vid I started clipping for last month.

And at some point I should finish the time travel fic where Buffy goes to sleep at the end of "Gone Again" and wakes up in her old teenage body in "Innocence."

Oh, that would be AMAZING. I would love to see how the events of s2 play out with her foreknowledge. Especially the end with Angel! Would she still to chose to kill him, given that she refused to let Dawn die? AND OH MAN, WOULD DAWN BE THERE? It would be awesome either way! Because: if she's not there, super angsty, but if she is there, you get to see how she fitted into the plot arc.

You should totally write this!

Dawn will totally be there! There is nothing I love like some retroactive Dawn, yo.

I think I have about a thousand words of it right now. Mmmm. I have to figure out a few of the plot points, but I am really excited about the premise.

That is true of so much in Season 6. So very much. I always liked Tara and Dawn, though.
