More Things!
Nov. 30th, 2010 06:17 pm1. I have finally seen the new BBC Sherlock! While I absolutely adored the first episode, the other two were more meh for me. The second one in particular was just dumb in all sorts of ways (though I did love that the plot turned on the London AZ). There are apparently only two smugglers of Chinese antiquities in all of London? HAHAHAHAHAHA- NO. Also, it is way harder to get that sort of thing through airport security than the show seems to be aware of. I've seen people stopped for having modern replicas of blank terracotta pots. And I suspect the jade hairpin at the end would legally have to be repatriated to China, so no one's getting those nine million pounds.
I've spent a lot of time on the ethical implications of antiquities in the art market! It is rarely useful information.
Overall, I enjoyed, though I'm not particularly inspired to write fanfiction. But I'm very much looking forward to more.
2. Have you seen the trailer for The Eagle? Because if not, you should watch it right now. It is possibly the slashiest movie ever. I became a member of the fandom about 1:06 in, when the cynical guy tries to slit the throat of the other guy, and then they bond. HELLO MY FAVORITE STORY TROPES, HOW ARE YOU. I cannot wait for this move to come out.
3. I was in London yesterday, walking down the street, when I heard someone call my name. I dismissed it at first, because, well, I don't know anyone in London. But it turned out to be a friend from school (who is himself supposed to be in China right now, to make it even weirder), also walking down a street in London. And not even a particularly tourist-y part of London! My life is so random sometimes.
4. What Teachers Make (video). Spoken word poem by Taylor Mali. Really wonderful.
5. I have no context for this picture (apparently it's from a production of Twelfth Night?) but it is AMAZING.
6. Still working on that story.

I was partial to the third, because I think it's an interesting take on Moriarty, but the first one was probably my favorite. Have you seen the unaired pilot? Because the script is a lot tighter, but everything else is worse. It's pretty fascinating.

I'm definitely looking forward to more episodes! I have not seen the unaired pilot, but that sounds quite intriguing.
