Five stories the Reader never began - If On A Winter's Night a Traveler. So, I've never read this canon, and yet this story is awesome. It is all about fandom: IRC and fandomwank and sock-puppets and old archives and geocities and OMG I love it. This is wonderful, absolutely.

Drabbling in Archaeology - Archaeology RPF. And on the other hand, I think I may be the only one to know this canon. But, but it's about archaeology! All the little fiddly bits and gossip and clearly the author knows what she's talking about. I am in love. It's also beautifully written, but to be honest, I don't know how much sense this would make without knowing the background.

the more you try to erase me - Hip Hop RPF. Kanye West/Lupe Fiasco. The Kanye voice is hilarious. This story is surprisingly touching, and o so much fun. I quote:
"Never change, Ye," Lupe tells him and heads into the hallway.

"So you'll get back to me about the blowjob?" Kanye yells down the hallway. A hotel maid looks up from her cleaning cart, eyes wide and Kanye just waves.

[I succeeded in crawling into the breast of my big boss!] - Maru. OK. I kept seeing this story rec'd, but I thought to myself, 'how could someone possibly write an interesting story about a cat?' Well, turns out that it's possible. This story is wonderful and just perfect. Another quote:
I am Maru. I am perfect, untouchable.

My purity is unparalleled, unmatched by such tawdry phenomena as undriven snow or the vacuum of space. A matrix of order and a fount of cosmic alignment, I – Maru – set confusion aright and wipe away all worldly stains. Harmony shimmers around my immaculate form.

I am Maru, and I have been sitting in a fruit bowl licking myself for over four hours.

If You Find Me Lying On My Side - The Devil Wears Prada. Zombies invade the Runway offices. Come on, zombies make everything better. This is awesome and hilarious.

Gifts of Love - The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. A mystery at the orphanage. This story is sweet and captures the voice of the books exactly. I just adore this story; it's so lovely.

Hee, I love the archaeology one. I remember my advisor one time receiving an invitation to some event that boasted "an evening with Harrison Ford", then reading more and being really disappointed it was a silent auction and Harrison Ford would not, in fact, be at the event.

Harrison Ford shows up at So. Many. archaeology fund-raising type things. Much fewer of them actually have him there, heh.

Wow. The Archaeology one...thank you for pointing it out, I wouldn't have found it otherwise.

Heh, I only found it because I wrote the other one for the same request. But this one- it's amazing! It deserves more attention, definitely.

marufic! with that hilarious fruit bowl statement! which also contains the sentence 'i am maru, and i'm sitting on a stuffed hedgehog.' brilliant, lol. you can insert the name of your favourite character here too, with similar side-splitting results. :D

Oh. My. Goodness. Archaeoloy RPF? Ian Hodder and Lewis Binford RPF?. All kinds of fabulous. I wonder whether anyone has written about UK based archaeologists (I completely misinterpretted 'north of the border' at first)... Thank you so much for reccing this.

*blinks to make sure she really did see it*

Hee! I'm glad you liked it. I was incredibly pleased to find it myself. And if you find any British Archaeology RPF, be sure to let me know!

omg, omg, the If On A Winter's Night A Traveller one :O :O :O

I have read the source canon for this (it is more or less the same as its Yuletide pastiche version, just with a different reference set), and what's so brilliant about this is that it's not just a very close and clever pastiche of the souce material (which it is), but that it matches Calvino's version in tone too; resolutely light, pulling the metaphorical rug out from under you-the-reader again and again for the sheer joy of it, so it seems -- but at the same time catching you seriously at odd moments (that strange melancholy at stumbling over someone's dead homepage from '96...). It's difficult to quantify how good of a pastiche it is until you read the other four stories submitted for this prompt -- all of which are very competent and quite witty and so forth -- and still, they don't even come close.

...um. In conclusion, thank you for the rec! ~ ♥
