Paleontology and Creationism Meet But Don't Mesh - NY Times article. A bunch of scientists go to the Creationism Museum.

10 Fantastic Futuristic Materials that Actually Exist - blog article. Really interesting!

Flowchart for Determining What Your Favorite Summer '09 Blockbuster Will Be - LJ post. Hilarious.

Bulwer-Lytton 2009 Contest Winners - the annual "worst opening sentence" contest. My favorite? "The gutters of Manhattan teemed with the brackish slurry indicative of a significant though not incapacitating snowstorm three days prior, making it seem that God had tripped over Hoboken and spilled his smog-flavored slurpie all over the damn place."

MoveOn.Org: Stop the Crackdown - petition. Protest in support of the Iranian people.

Palais d'Hiver by [livejournal.com profile] b_hallward - fic. Dorian wrote me a story! Um, in January. But I just now realized, and so I encourage you all to go and read and love it, as I do. Yami no Matsuei, Hisoka, G.

[livejournal.com profile] the_good_dollar - LJ community supporting charity. Very nice cause.

The Intersection of Race and Steampunk - blog article. Really fascinating and well-written post about the role of colonialism in the steampunk genre/community.

I adore that story of Dorian's. There's a whole collection of them, did you realize? I naturally love mine the best, but it's a near run thing; every single one of them is a perfect jewel.

Okay, I have no idea what's going on here. First I saw this post, and then it vanished as if it had never existed. So I tried again, and now it has posted twice.

I'm leaving it for now because of the weirdness. If the system doesn't eat any of these comments, I'll fix it -- or you should feel more than free to fix it for me.

I do know! But I linked to mine because, as you say, they're all gorgeous, but I love mine the best. It's just so clearly mine that I can't help it.

And oh, LJ. I am having all sorts of issues with the internet today. First this, and then NYC's library system has been having fits since last week, and I can't order any of the books I want.

There's a second steampunk essay on Racialicious now, too. I really like both posts.

I did it! And I liked that one a lot, too. I just really preferred this first article because I do have a lot of friends in RL who dress up in the steampunk fashion to go to parties and events (and I suppose I do too. Steampunk doesn't particularly appeal to me one way or the other, but if I'm invited to a place specifically for it, I at least attempt to wrangle something out of my wardrobe, you know?). And the colonialism aspect of it is something that's been bothering me, and which I've been talking about with these friends. And so I really liked that the article addressed that specifically, and also offered a potential solution.

Yeah, I liked how sort of practical it was.

Definitely. That museum is only a few hour's drive from my parents' house, though, so I've been tempted to go visit it myself, to see what it's like.
