1. Fixing the computer is turning out to be more problematic than I'd assumed, since it turns out that the warranty does not cover damages, agh.
2. Mmmmm, New York, New York, shining island city of crowds and glass and green and grids and towers and noise. No place on Earth like it. But my favorite coffeeshop no longer has Italian sodas. This is sad, because it is too hot to drink coffee or tea or hot chocolate or etc.
3. Random Syrian story while I wait to get photos off of my broken laptop!
A few days ago, I and some people were shopping at the marketplace in Damascus (that is quite a dramatic way to start what will be, after all, a small story). We were loitering near a stall selling books while waiting for someone, and I was flipping through a coloring book of Fulla- the Arabic Barbie. I noticed a book promising to teach English in three weeks, and picked it up and flipped through it. It consisted entirely of random sentences one might theoretically need, written in English on one side of the page and Arabic on the other, things like "Have you ever been to France?" and "She starts her new job in three weeks." But the page I happened to open to had, at the very bottom, "He no longer beats his wife." Amused, I pointed this out to the person I was waiting with, who noticed the phrase in the middle of the page: "He hates her like poison".
These are important English phrases! I think I'll learn how to say "he hates her like poison" in the language of every country I visit.
4. I want icons of random photos of things like scenery, stock photos, flowers, etc. Preferably bright colors. Does anyone have any recommendations or links?
