Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? Less, unfortunately. This is not even a third of what I wrote last year! Like I said in the book roundup post, it's sort of expected, given the non-fandom things I did this year, but it's still depressing to see summarized like this.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2006? I didn't think I'd write Meine Liebe, but it's not completely unexpected. I wrote my first BDSM story (And In Possession So), which took me a great deal of thought and research for something so short, and which I am pleased with.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I really love Secret of Its Skeleton. That story percolated in my backbrain for a couple months before it formed, and I really love that mental space. Plus, I still have a whole ipod soundtrack for it I adore.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them? The Romans Call It Stoicism felt like a risk, because I wasn't sure I knew the characters well enough to really capture them.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? I have a MA thesis due in May! Ahh!
From my past year of writing, what was...
My Favorite Story: The Secret of Its Skeleton
Best Story: Probably the author shouldn't say, but I think And In Possession So. It took me ages to take this from a vague idea to an actual story, and I love how it turned out.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: Blossom to Blossom feels that way to me. Possibly the flower theme scared people off.
Most Fun: Of Smoke and Gold and Breathing is totally and completely my self-indulgent story of the year. It is just all description and metaphor and other various things I have a tendency to overdo.
Most Sexy: And In Possession So feels very sexy to me, though it's not a kink I'd want to act out.
Story with a Single Sexy Moment: The hell sort of question is this? In general, I've just noticed that my stories this year have a lot less explicit sex, and a lot more explicit death-by-sword. I dunno what's up with that. Anyway, um. Of Smoke and Gold and Breathing is very sensual.
Holy crap, that's wrong: Probably the knifeplay in And In Possession So.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: The first story I write in a fandom is also very interesting, so The Romans Call It Stoicism fits this. And In Possession So is one of the few I've written from Alec's perspective, and that took a lot of thinking and reconsidering, and Like Crumbs was interesting for the same reason.
Hardest to Write: Several took a long time to solidify into story form, but they weren't hard exactly. Nightingale was very hard, but I'm not sure why; there were several things I wanted to balance in the story, and never felt quite satisfied with it.
Biggest disappointment: Just the general wordcount, I think. I'm very sad that I haven't had as much free time as I would like, or enough space to play with fandom as much as makes me happy.
Biggest surprise: Hmmm. Nothing is particularly surprising. I didn't really go out of my normal bounds this year, sadly.
A story I want remembered: I really love And In Possession So.
