It has been gloriously warm the last few days, and is supposed to get over 60 by Tuesday. I am so happy! I bought flowers at the farmers' market this weekend- a pot of daffodils and a pot of red tulips- and they're just starting to bloom; it's lovely. Generally I am incapable of keeping houseplants alive, but I figure if I can manage to keep these around at least until the flowers fall off, it will still be longer than a bouquet of cut flowers would have lasted, and was just as cheap.

The guy who sold them to me had been getting his picture taken by someone when I came over to pay; he came over with me to the cash register as the other guy told him to come back after, because he wanted another photo. "I think he likes me!" the plant-owner said to me, and I just laughed politely. "I mean, likes-me likes-me! What do you think? Yes or no?"

"I don't know!" I said, incredibly amused at these two older guys, in their late forties or early fifties, acting like high school students. "But I don't get strangers asking to take my photo."

Random things I have discovered on the internet: Jonathon Rhys Meyers, who I have several icons of, including the one I'm currently using, because I pretend he could play Alec, was in the remake of The Lion in Winter. Which means he actually acted out a scene wearing old-fashioned clothes and seducing someone named Richard (the relevant part starts about two minutes into that clip, but I don't know how to make it skip ahead). Too bad the personalities are entirely wrong and that everyone is such a bad actor (or maybe they only seem like it, since the poor boys have to compete against the original The Lion in Winter); I still so pleased that this exists.

Right now I have strawberries and wine and am going to go take a bath; what are y'all doing this fine evening?

JRM is so not my Alec, but hey close enough for the swoon.

Heh. But he's so pretty! And look, does crazy things with drugs.

Who plays your Alec, then?

No one really. I'd never object to JRM in the role, but he's said a lot of anit-gay things in interviews and he annoys me. Also, as aware of his bullshit as Alec is, I don't think he's as calculated as JRM's film affect.

Really? I've heard him referred to as a gay icon more than once. "Velvet Goldmine" was his breakout movie.

Sure, but he's straight and he's getting a bit sick of it apparently. There were no end of bitchy remarks from him in various media around the time that Oliver Ston'e Alexander was coming out. Maybe he's grown up since, but it really annoyed me.

That might explain this.

OH good. Much better. because he is soooo pretty.

I never would have guessed that; he plays so many gay characters. That's disappointing, man.

It would depend on his mood, I think. Alec can be that calculated, but certainly isn't always. I don't know if JRM could do vicious well enough, though.

RM, I think you may have him mixed up with someone else.

No, I don't. He gave a couple of semi-hostile interviews during the release of Oliver Ston'e Alexander about it, that really made a lot of people prickly. That said, he is about the prettiest thing ever, I agree.

Jonathon Rhys Meyers is pretty. And Clearly Evil. Or perhaps I only think that because the only things I've seen in in is Titus and Gormenghast.

I totally did not realize that it was him in Titus until recently. Though possibly just because I spent the majority of that movie annoyed with the weird anachronisms or entranced by the guy who played Aaron.

I haven't seen Gormenghast yet, but I hear good things about it, and someone mailed me a copy of it recently, so I should get it any day now.

Aaron is an awesome character.

Somehow I've only managed to see the first half of Gormenghast. Three times. I keep watching with someone else, and then someone new shows up who wants to see it, so we go back to the beginning again.

I adore him.

Hee. I'm looking forward to actually seeing it; it seems like I've been hearing things about it for years.

Have you seen JRM in the ads for the Tudors? It looks exciting.

From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Oh shit is it him in the Tudors? No wonder I was toying with getting Showtime.

Date: 2007-03-12 04:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chthonicsiren.livejournal.com
Yep, it's him. Of course I'm of the opinion that Showtime rules anyway for Weeds and Dexter (and if you like terrible lesbian soap opera, The L Word).

From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Everyone tells me I need to check out Dexter. And while I'm all for lesbians, most people tell me the L word is too awful to be into.

Date: 2007-03-12 04:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chthonicsiren.livejournal.com
Yeah, it really is just too awful. Dexter, on the other hand, is actually very good.

From: [identity profile] kessie.livejournal.com
Haha, I am terribly addicted to The L Word, in that trashy 'glutting myself with the box sets' kind of way. I think its biggest failing is that it tries to pack far too much into 13 episodes per season, and so fails almost immediately. But it's fairly awesome for the sheer lesbian aspect and because I haven't had a trashy soap to follow avidly in a long while..

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
My best friend is obsessed with it. And I know a lot of people who have L Word-watching parties. Yet, somehow, I have never seen a single episode, or even a commercial really. So I have no idea what it's about other than 'lesbian soap opera' which would probably be enough to make me watch it, if I had more free time. *grins*

I haven't seen ads, but I did come across stills when looking for photos of him! (Although alas, apparently the Tudors had short hair and I thus cannot put those pictures to good use.) I really want to watch, but I don't have Showtime. I'll have to download it, I suppose.

Glad you liked! I just wish the guy playing Richard hadn't decided to act as though he had some sort of mental deficiency.

...how disappointing. That is a terrible wig and there is really something to be said about the subtlety of the original. Anthony Hopkins, where are you?

Date: 2007-03-13 05:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
*laughs* Dude, I know! This had made me consider how awesome young Anthony Hopkins would be as Swordspoint's Richard. I am seriously annoyed by how the remake actor seems to have decided to play Lion in Winter's Richard as an idiot.
