Oscar nominations are out! I'm terribly disappointed that I've only seen one of the best picture nominees (The Departed); now I have to try and see all the others before the show is on. Though I'm not certain I even want to see The Queen, unless someone wants to convince me that it's actually much better than it looks.

In other news, my roommate is still gone. Of the 17 days since I had to return from break, she has been here for four of them. Possibly three and a half. One of those she used to clean the entire place, including, I'm fairly certain, mopping the floors. I'd worry that was some sort of passive-aggressive comment on my housecleaning skills if I, you know, cared. Also, I wasn't the one who still had milk from October in the fridge.

She must not have much to do, or like any of the people here, I suppose. Though if I lived within easy-weekend-visit distance of New York, I'd be making excuses to come here, not stay away.

Damn. Your roommate way beats mine. Is he (?) sleeping at a SO's, or going home, or what?

If you're willing to watch on DVD rather than on the big screen, I may be able to help you out with some of them. Anything in particular you wanted to see?

Oh, you're too good to me. I'd like to see Little Miss Sunshine, Babel, or Letters from Iwo Jima (though that just came out a few weeks ago, so it's probably fairly hard to get a copy of). And of course this is all accompanied with flailing that you shouldn't, really, and only if you're sure you want to, and I would be grateful for anything, and consider yourself under no obligation.

And indeed, I don't have a screener of Letters from Iwo Jima. But I do have Little Miss Sunshine and Babel. They can't (and shouldn't) be duped, but there's no rule I'm aware of saying that only one person ever is allowed to watch them.

But even those two would be excellent. Really, thank you so much.

Little Miss Sunshine is awesome.

I don't understand your roommate. If you don't like spending time in New York, why would you choose to go to school or live there?

So I hear. It's definitely the one I want to see the most.

Good question! I suppose she could have found that she likes it less than she thought she would, or is having trouble adjusting, or something. I kinda feel bad for her, since obviously she must not be happy here or she wouldn't be going home so often, but she doesn't speak to me so I don't really know what I can do about it.

I guess. I would think that people that expected to like it would, and only people that don't expect to like it won't. On the other hand, I was going to live with [livejournal.com profile] gaudior after we graduated, and didn't, because she ended up living in New York, and I didn't want to live in a huge city. But then I started writing characters that love cities, and I like New York better now.

It's sad rooming with people you don't talk to. I did that my freshman year, and while it was better than having a roommate I fought with all the time, it would have been nice if I had made a new friend.

I suppose she might have been really interested in the school, and not its location (she's in Classics, which I know nothing about, so I have no idea how our school measures up against other departments. I can't imagine it's so good as to make her come here if she truly hated the city, but it could be possible). I adore cities, and the bigger the better, so I was so glad to get to come here. I suppose she also might have come here because it was close enough for her to go home on weekends.

It seems to happen to me a lot, though usually they'll at least say 'hello', which this one only does occasionally.

Ah, having a single. *hugs room*

And yes, Little Miss Sunshine is beyond awesome. I own it if you want to watch/borrow it sometime.

The only movies I saw were Happy Feet, Monster House, and Pan's Labyrinth. Despite the amount of blood I really enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth. I hope it wins some awards and gets a decent DVD release.

I really do want to see Pan's Labyrinth; it looks so interesting. It's just a tradition of mine to always see the best picture nominees, if only so I can complain about the winner. *grins*

I usually don't buy drinks/food from the concession stand, but we had a large group so I got popcorn. Big mistake. I have never had a problem with a queasy stomach in the theater (but then I watch almost no horror because I'm a wuss) but I was regretting having a $6.00 bucket of popcorn just sit there. So yeah, no food during that movie.

Wow, that gory, huh? Or maybe it was the nasty butter-lard stuff they put on popcorn in theatres. But I'm just being snarky, some people like it.

I never had to look away, but yes, it's that gory. It's really disturbing. Glad I saw it though.

I hadn't realized it was quite that dark. Now I want to see it even more.

Relentlessly dark, is what the group I went with decided.

I <3 extra butter popcorn!
It's not really gory in a hack and slash way, as much as unsettling, because it is set during the war, and that is just how war is.
