Several of the people on my friends list have mentioned that they're going to participate in Project 365 this year. I don't have a link to an explanation, but the basic idea is that you take one photograph a day, for a whole year. I got a camera for Christmas last month, and it sounds like fun, so I figured I'd play too. Unfortunately I didn't realize that I wanted to join in until today, so I'm cheating a bit by having the first seven photos all be ones I took today.

It really is too bad that I didn't start yesterday; I could have had some very cool pictures of driving over the Appalachians.

I love this Gandhi statue so much! It is my favorite thing ever. If I knew who was continually supplying him with fresh flower necklaces, I would totally donate money to them.

Note to self: do not attempt to take photos while struggling to keep umbrella from blowing away.

Great photos. The Appalachian Mtns are great.

Where was the first shot taken?

Thank you!

The west side of Union Square, in NYC.

These all look really cool. Hm, what's that last one a picture of?

Thank you!

Grace Cathedral. Which is terribly pretty, especially at night when they light it up, but I was getting cold standing in the rain and trying to get a photo, and I figured with 365 pictures, I'd be sure to get another shot of it sometime.

Oh, this is so neat. I wish I had the powers of commitment/patience to play too, but I definitely look forward to seeing more of yours.

Yeah, we'll have to see if I actually manage to keep this up for a whole year.

Thank you!

These were all in one day? What a fun place. Was there, like, an art show or something going on or is this much activity normal? How fun.

Yep, one day, though in a couple different places because I had various things I needed to do. The third picture is of an open-air market, but since they have it every weekend, I don't think it counts as unusual. But these are the normal sorts of things I see when I'm walking around; I took some photos of a guy juggling fire too, but they didn't come out as well.

Seeing all these pictures makes me want to live in New York even more.

Sometimes New York's reputation annoys me, because multiple people keep starting conversations with me that go "What do you mean you live on Manhattan and haven't yet partied with Linsey Lohan/done cocaine every night/had wild public sex in clubs twice a week?!?" Which makes me want to say, Dudes. It is just another city, really.

But on the other hand, I do love it so, and it is totally true that you can constantly find interesting things like in these photos just by going for a walk. I recommend living here!

I adore visiting New York; there's always so much stuff to do. I'm not sure if I'm cut out for living in a big city though. I'm such a suburbs kid.

I am totally a city person. I dislike anything else intensely. Though suburbs are better than the country; the country scares me. Too few people.

Thank you! And you should totally do it too. *teeeempts*

I really like that drawing. It looks like chalk, but I'm not sure if it really is, because it's been there for, like, two months by now. So either it's paint made to look like chalk or somebody must keep redrawing it.
