Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? It looks like so many, written out like this. I know that plenty of people beat my wordcount in November alone, but it's a lot for me. I'd guess that it's probably more than I've written in a year, though I haven't counted, so I can't be sure. So I suppose it's more than I thought I'd write.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2006? Uh, I had no idea that I'd write so much Swordspoint. Not that I mind! I also never expected to write Discworld or Loveless, and both of those were fun. I don't think I wrote anything new in terms of genre, though; these all feel like my type of stories. I can*not* believe I wrote so little YnM. And not one thing with Hisoka in it! What the fuck?

What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? I'm really very fond of 'What Power'. I had to do so much research on Singapore for it, and to set up the world, and to fit all the necessary worldbuilding into a story that was short enough for me to write. I adore this version of the characters, and had so much fun coming up with them and writing it.

Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them? 'Letters' was a risk, I suppose, to see if I could do all these first-person voices when normally I stick to my lovely third-person-limited. And I wrote a few that were much longer than my usual range. But not really, nothing truly unusual. I suppose I should do that.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Just to write more, and more often. Maybe to write something original.

From my past year of writing, what was...
My Favorite Story:
'What Power'.

Best Story: Wow, that's hard for me to say. Isn't the author not allowed to make those sorts of judgments? I think 'We Are Pain and What Cures Pain, Both' is very good.

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: I'd say 'What Power'. It got so few comments.

Most Fun: 'Friends'. Tsuzuki/Watari is just an inherently fun pairing. Someone needs to write them a long story.

Most Sexy: I really like the first half of 'Hardcore and Gentle'.

Story with a Single Sexy Moment: I thought the one scene at night between Sanzo and Gojyo in 'What Power' was incredibly sweet and sexy, but I deliberately left it vague enough that the story could still be gen. Which, of course, might just add to the sexiness. 'Lightning Laughs at the Clouds' doesn't have any sex at all, but it sits in my memory as a very sensual story.

Holy crap, that's wrong: I'm sure some people think the OT4 for 'We are Pain and What Cures Pain, Both' is squicky.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: 'Hungry' made me think much more about Goku. I hadn't paid much attention to him before, and now I'm terribly fond of him.

Hardest to Write: 'Intermission' and 'Letters' were both very hard, but that really says more about me and deadlines and too-big ideas than anything about the stories themselves.

Biggest disappointment: I'm disappointed that I haven't finished 'Fall' and 'Rise' yet, and very, very much intend to do so as soon as possible, as well as the [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge story I still owe. That's what really upsets me; no matter how bad any of these stories may be, at least I finished them. I'd also desperately like to rewrite the ending to 'Sins', now.

Biggest surprise: Several of the Swordspoint stories were complete surprises that came to me almost wholly formed and which I wrote in a matter of hours, which never happens to me. Particularly 'Sins' and 'Come Back'; I think both of those were written in single sittings, and that is just weird.

A story I want remembered: 'We Are Pain and What Cures Pain, Both', I think. I so wanted to actually write something for the OT4, and I like the result.
