I enjoy it when people comment, and I can talk to them, yes, I do.

So, taken most recently from [livejournal.com profile] ranalore: give me a fandom you know I'm not into, and I'll tell you what I think it's about based on what I've picked up online.

Also! Because I keep forgetting to recommend it, Taking the Victory by [livejournal.com profile] kessie. PG, Tsuzuki/Hisoka. A lovely story in the future, with a calmer Tsuzuki and Hisoka.

I'd ask for your impressions of football RPS, but I'm not quite THAT cruel. XD

Hmm. The new series of Doctor Who, perhaps? Or Torchwood.

*laughs* I have never seen any series of Doctor Who, so...

There's an old guy who travels through time, and is possibly an alien. He has a Companion, which changes, but for a while was a woman named Rose, except that she died, so now there's a new one, who is black, and this is apparently very exciting. The Doctor and his Companion are always In Love! But they don't have sex, because the Doctor is celibate. Except, you know, for when he's not, and then the sex is on.

Possibly he's traveling through time to save humanity, but as far as I know, it could also be because he got a free time machine in his breakfast cereal.

All I know about Torchwood is that it has Welsh people! Who are oppressed, or not oppressed, or something.

Okay, now I'll ask for your impression of football RPS. :D :D

Professional football (which we call soccer over here, but we also refuse to use Celsius or learn the metric system, so clearly no one should take our lead) is way cooler than any game I have ever watched. There are exciting dramatic rivalries between teams, and now and then the entire planet joins in on one huge tournament! For which some teams hire witch doctors, which must be true because I saw it in National Geographic. Man, none of my sports give me the opportunity to sacrifice chickens, or even drive around waving my country's flag and screaming.

Also, sometimes someone gets headbutted, and this is either a Terrible Thing or was Provoked By A Racist Insult, but either way, everyone feels very strongly about it.

The players, who are all very pretty, given that they're top athletes who wear uniforms with shorts, are extremely manly. Except that they weep like children when their team loses, and embrace their teammates when they win. They also like to embrace their teammates when they're excited, when they're sad, when they're happy, when they're drunk, and when they're nearby. Paparazzi take photos of this, and once again, the whole planet joins in on the love.

*giggling* Well, I don't know about chickens, but they did shut down a diamond mine in Ghana at one point to ensure that there'll be enough electricity for people to watch the World Cup. :D Then there were those students in Pakistan, I think, who protested until they were allowed to take the entire month off.

And yes. They do indeed take every opportunity to throw their arms around each other (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w8vTVyocmc). I'd link you to better pictures, but there're so many. XD

That is why I don't write Football RPS. It's one of those fandoms where I get all I need from canon. *g*

Ha! That's awesome. I totally need a month off from school to watch sports.

*dies* But better pictures wouldn't come with the Brokeback Mountain theme, which really does make everything funnier.

You *are* cruel

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Ahahahaha.

DBSK aka several other sets of four letters, is a Korean pop band with very, very pretty members. Whose names I will not even attempt to remember, except that two of them start with J? And maybe there's a couple of Ys, too. And a Changming, or something similar. ...is one named Yoon? That sounds right.

They have suitable-for-anime angsty backstories, involving living on the streets and being tone-deaf and having anti-fans, and are fond of invading each other's personal space, because they are in love. Also, apparently there's a video where they dress up as animals. DBSK is best experienced by watching the videos repeatedly and taking in the pretty, with the sound on mute.

::laughs:: There are two Js, two Ys, and one of the Ys is Yunho (same syllable as Yoon, who would probably be amused to come up in a conversation like this ;-). Also, one Changmin. *G*

There are a few of their songs I like, and they do have really excellent voices, but yes, you've got it nailed. *VBG*

Naruto is about baby ninjas! There is a kid named Naruto, who is training to be a ninja, and is very good at it, or bad at it but he has special powers, or something. But he is determined to be the best ever! He is friends with another boy and a girl, and there is much debate as to who is in love with who. They all live together in a secret ninja village, and sometimes other ninja villages visit and they have tournaments to see who is the best. There is a lot of stuff about learning to protect the people most important to you.

The teachers are also pretty cool, apparently.

Seconding on the teachers part and on the rec :) The manga is crazy, but in all the right ways, what with insomniac baby demons, those wonderful hidden villages, credible politics, porn-reading ninjas, and catchphrases like "Sorry, I'm late because I got lost on the way of life".

Ha. My, this will be incoherent.

There are two men, and they have some sort of secret, super-cool job; they might be spies? Or assassins? I don't know, but the job comes with a cool car. They are definitely British. They have one of those intensely personal and and way too close partnerships that fandom loves, a la Due South or Starsky & Hutch, though the series is darker than either of those. At least one of the guys has a terrible, angsty backstory. They are both hot, in a 70s sort of way.

Hee! ^.^

I found Pros on DVD, and really quite liked it.

They work for CI5, a made-up branch of British law enforcement with a breif that lets them cover... pretty much anything their boss wants them to. Some spy-stuff, some police-stuff. And there are shiny cars, and shooting, and very tight trousers, and things blow up.

One of the guys went to art school and then was a cop, the other was a mercenary, then in the army. ^.^

I had to pause to figure out what fandoms I was in, then what you knew of, and then what would get the most amusing results.

Veronica Mars.

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
I have been having trouble with that myself, as you know.

Nancy Drew in modern times! No, it's the new Buffy! People were very excited when this premiered! There's a pretty blonde girl, whose mother was murdered, and she solves crimes. The daughter, not the dead mom. Sometimes her dad helps, because he's a cop, maybe. She has a boyfriend named Logan, but they broke up. Or should break up. There's a lot of stuff about class in Southern California, which is apparently way more intricate than I realized, because Veronica has less money than her rich classmates. Also, someone was raped at a party.

The first season was much better than the rest, but people continue to watch anyway.

Date: 2006-11-21 06:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] parallactic.livejournal.com
You're 80% right: it was the pretty blonde girl's best friend who was murdered, her dad is an ex-cop and current P.I., and it was Veronica who was raped at a party. There's also campus serial rapes in S3.

Hey, pretty good.

My undergrad campus had several serial rapists, so while it might be accurate, it's hardly an element I look for in my entertainment.

Bleach and ooh Smallville

Date: 2006-11-21 05:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Bleach has shinigami, and even one named Kurosaki! But not the pretty, angsty gay kind of shinigami. Wait- this is fandom. I bet they are pretty and angsty and gay, because everyone in fandom is. But these shingami have giant swords, and fight weird monsters without faces, which creeps me out. Also, unlike YnM, there is a female main character. There is another girl named Orihime or something like that, and she has giant boobs. There is also a demon parakeet, or maybe cockatail.

There are lots and lots of fights, and people gaining power and becoming stronger. At one point the cool, kickass girl shinigami gets kidnapped, which means the series got boring. Oh! And there's a guy who wears feathers in his eyebrow, and is totally haughty and insulting and cool. He is in love with a bald guy.

Smallville is the teen angst story of Superman, and his true love Lex Luthor, who is also bald. Clark is best friends with a guy named Pete, and a girl named Chloe, and is in love with a girl who I can't remember, but who is not Lois Lane, even though her name also starts with L. They all go to school in Kansas, in a town where Mysterious Events happen weekly, usually caused by kryptonite, Clark, and/or Lex's evil dad.

Incest! As brought to you by Fox.

Two brothers, and sometimes their dad, drive around the country in an awesome car, fighting monsters. Someone, possibly their mom, burned to death on a ceiling. Bruce Springsteen-like music is very important. The important thing is the brothers, who are very pretty, and suffer even prettier, and are totally sleeping together. Except for the people who realize the moral offensiveness of that suggestion, because writing adult consensual incest is Just Like Rape, Dammit.

Kyou Kara Maou?

Date: 2006-11-21 06:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
A boy falls through a toilet to a magical world where there are demons, and kings and queens, and men get pregnant. The boy is the prophesied savior of the world, or something special anyway, and so gets to be fought over a lot. Maybe he's not fought over, but armies are involved somehow. Someone slaps someone else, which is apparently how you propose here, so two people who can't stand each other end up engaged. Someone is named Gwendel. There is also a very hot mom. One character is a spy, and this involves him dressing up as a woman. Often.

Also, it is even more on crack than normal animes.

That's pretty accurate, for the first 27 episodes (of 78), which is where you hit the first major spoiler and first major ouch so that's reasonable.

(And there are hints of MPreg, but no explicit/irrefutable evidence.)

As you might expect, I recommend it. ^.^

Blake's 7. And/or Eroica.

Date: 2006-11-22 03:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Blake's 7: a scifi TV series starring Blake, a man unjustly imprisoned by a corrupt, overbearing government. He breaks out, along with I suppose seven people, some of whom were also actually innocent, but some of whom totally did whatever they were accused of. Together they start a rebellion against the government. One of the characters is named Avon; he wears leather and is a snarky bastard, and I imagine I would like him quite a lot. After a few seasons, Blake dies (I think. Someone dies, at least), and Avon takes over, at which point the series gets much darker. Then I think everyone dies in the finale.

Everything I need to know about fandom I learned in [livejournal.com profile] fst.

Eroica: there's a man, perhaps with a vaguely German-sounding name? And a woman. And together, they do... something. Yeah, I know nothing about this one; I'm not even sure what medium it's in.
