My Yuletide assignment: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! !!! And more: !!! Best thing ever, man.

To my Yuletide Santa,

Thank you so much! I promise already that I am grateful for any story you might write, and so you can take all of this as inspiration, or suggestions, or ignore it entirely.

I wrote a post about my top ten story kinks a few years ago, or here is a more recent comment about my favorite "cool bits" in stories. Any details taken from those would make me incredibly happy.

You could also check out the fic I've written, though I hardly expect you to really do that much research on my tastes. But a quick glance through might indicate that, well, violence, adult language, and dark themes are highly unlikely to bother me, and sex is always a plus.

My favorite things, though, are the characters. Write me a story that explores the characters, that shows them- interacting or alone, happy or sad- just as people, and I will love you forever.

I'm still waiting on my assignment, but I'm very excited already since it's my first time doing this. :D

I'm amazed that I got mine this quickly; it seems like we've always had to wait a few days before.

But I feel like this is the most fun part of the whole process- as soon as you see the assignment, when you are filled with glee (or terror). Earlier in the week, I had so many fandoms on my willing-to-write list that I had no idea what to expect, and so I wasn't really too emotionally involved, and then it'll wear off once I actually start working on the story. But now? Now I am SO AMUSED OMG.

Hee. ♥ I'm glad you got yours! And that it's amusing.

I only put a few, but I er, kind of jumped in at last minute since I had forgotten to earlier. But I'm still really really curious to see which one of them I'll be assigned to. (I have a vague guess which one is most likely looking at the request numbers, but still.) :D

I'm happy to have gotten it, too, and I have all sorts of ideas already. It must be hard on you to wait, though! I'm so impatient that I'd hate it.

It seems like most people only pick ones they know they're comfortable writing. I'm just crazy (111 fandoms, I think, were on my willing-to-write list), but even with only a few to choose from, it's hard not to know which it'll be.

I do! But I think I'm going to go to bed now and hope hope hope it's there when I wake up. :D

I tried to go with that, mostly, since I don't have the canon for a lot of the things I'm vaguely familiar with readily available. And yes, you are crazy. ♥

Hee. Sleep: best time-waster ever.

I figured that I'm going home over Thanksgiving, so I could grab whatever canon I needed then. And if it was something I don't own, I'm sure I could find it at the library or something here.

My icon says it all. *laughs*

Oh. Oh oh. I just got my assignment. Hee!

The library here is weird. We're severely lacking in the fiction department, unless it's all hidden away where I can't find it. We have chem books that were written in the 1920s and books on colonizing the moon written in the 1950s, but not something like, say, American Gods. So go figure.

XD

Dude, awesome! Are you excited? XD

My university's library is like that. So was my undergrad's. I've stopped expecting school libraries to have interesting reading (as opposed to interesting research, or interesting paper-writing materials), and always make sure to get a card for the local public library. Much better resources for novels and movies.

Very very. XD And ohh, I'm going to have to try really hard to not talk about it.

Yeah. I at least found the book my Greek professor wrote! I would go to the local library here since it's right across the street, but it's unfortunately small since our town is, and while the building looks cool the rest is not as promising.

Keeping the secret is always the hardest part for me.

Really? That's too bad; I guess I am spoiled! Obviously New York has awesome libraries, and my city in Ohio ironically had an amazing public library. It's the top ranked one in the country, actually, which I know because they put it on every poster and bookmark and sign possible.

I'm starting to think I'm jixing myself in regards to the fandoms I write and get written for me in return. Perhaps this year my written for me jix will be gone, ansmy to write jinx certainly isn't. :))

Awww, now I'm worried for you- did you get a bad fandom? I will beta for you even if I don't know it!

Also, I was so excited replying to you earlier that I completely managed to miss you saying you were depressed. Are you alright? *hugs*

No, no, it's a good sort of jinx. More funny than anything else. skdhsjdh Keeping secrets is hard! :(( I started writing it last night, so I'm getting enthusiastic. In some ways, I'm lucky: my request was pretty much "hi. go wild." and since I have no LJ etc. to look at, that's pretty much all I can do. hahaha I miss being able to stalk a Yuletide LJ, though. It's great fun. And I better do my "Dear Santa" letter, too, now that I think of it.

You don't know the fandom, though you were on my flist while I briefly write in it. There's three people I'm going to ask if they wouldn't meind fandom!beta-ing for me, and then I'm going to ask for a general spelling/grammar/typo beta, too.

Oh, that. It was just a minor funk - I get them every few weeks. You know those days when you're feeling all blah and you essentially waste them? Yeah, it was one of them. I couldn't read, couldn't write, couldn't watch TV, and decided that my headache was too bad to warrant going to class. I think starting the new job and worrying about the maybe-one got to me as well. Thankfully, I'm much better today. ♥

Oh, I see! That's neat, then. I hate keeping the secret; it's totally the hardest part for me. I haven't started writing mine yet, but I have an idea! I'm so excited.

Heh, I feel your pain. My girl has an LJ, but she doesn't seem to use it, and hasn't posted a 'dear santa' letter, at least not yet. At least she threw in some details with her request.

Cool, then! At least you know you have some people who know the fandom (I do too, actually).

Ah, I see. I know exactly what you mean; days like that suck. But it's good to hear you feel better!

From your story kink post: 3. AUs. Yes, yes, yes. I never get tired of these. Also, stories far, far outside of the canon time-line, when the characters are just children or very elderly. Why is there no YnM fic set in 2500AD, for instance? They could still be around!

Is it bad that I immediately thought of Star Trek? Picard thinking "oh look, another alien race!" until it's "Oh wait, I'm really dead?" or something along those lines. Or Kirk, who would be 10x more hilarious. Or something. It's so insanely dorky my tired brain can't process it.

Hee. That would probably be a pretty fun crossover. I can't write it, because I've never really watched Star Trek, somebody should!
