Living in a boring environment causes changes to your brain. Interesting article.

Study shows 'The Daily Show' has as much, or more, news content as mainstream broadcast news. Jesus, no duh. After you cut out the human interest stories and the weather and the "Coming up next: what local intersection is deadliest?!', there's nothing left to normal news.

Today, I saw Terry Pratchett and had him sign some of my books. He's thinner and older than I'd pictured, but I loved his accent. Man, in one month in New York, more interesting people come through than in three years at Ohio.

On the negative side of things, look at this! This is the definitive list of Swordspoint fanfiction, in that I know of no stories that exist but aren't on it (yes, I realize there's only about 20 stories total, but I'm fairly certain I've already complained about that). Do you see how there is only one story under 'Alec-centered fics'? Do you see that it is written by me? Why must the fates hate me so? Clearly I need to pimp more people into the fandom, but that is hard when everyone I know has already read the book anyway. *tempts you all*

Amazon should be sending my books soon. :D And sign up Swordspoint as one of Yuletide's new fandoms.

I loved Kushner's "I love fanfic!" response. ♥ Made my day when I stumbled across it.

Also: your icon! Gormenghast! *___*

Squee! You bought them!

Dude. Swordspoint is almost always a Yuletide fandom (about half the existent stories come from Yuletide, actually), and I so badly want to request it for my story this year, but I have to write a New Year's Resolution fic if I want to participate, and I don't know if I'll manage that in time. Man, the one year I really really want to do Yuletide because my fandom is actually included, and I can't!

Isn't she cool?

Hee. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays Alec in my head, and he indulges me by having many roles where he has long hair and dresses up in old-fashioned clothes.

skjdhasjdha Write! Wriiiiite. :((

Yuletide has changed the rules this year, though! We're all submitting fandomds this year and starting the list from scratch again. So... uh, submit it. XD I have two stories, not including Yuletide, for Christmas season and I'm starting them now to leave plenty of time for Yuletide. :))

So cool!

I still rewatch Gormenghast, even if the trilogy made my head hurt. *sigh*

The fact that I could fill a request by writing a Swordspoint story is definitely making it tempting. *goes to look at other requests* Dude! Jonathon/George from Tamora Pierce's Lioness Quartet! That would be awesome and someone should very much write it. I don't know if I'd be able to do George's voice, though...

Hmmm. Tybalt/Mercutio from Romeo & Juliet! That is so hot. Excellent idea, whoever you are. Oh, something from Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle would be fun, but I don't have the books with me and I'm not sure if I remember it well enough to write it. Oh, man! Robin Hobb! I could totally write a Fitz/Fool story.

Okay, clearly I need to write one of these. I'll have plenty of time later this week, I can manage to finish a story by around the 15th. Although right now I should be writing a paper instead of stalking the unfilled request list. #^^#

I've never seen Gormenghast, actually. I know, I fail as a fan; it seems like everyone's seen it but me.

I have stopped looking at the unfulfilled requests because I keep going, "Oh, I could write that! And that! Oh, and them too!" *fails*

I still get Tamora Pierce's books! Clearly, I am still a twelve year old at heart. And loving it. ♥

I'm just started the Baroque Cycle and it's amazing. I weep from feeling so inadequate as a writer.

You really need to write one of these. :D

It's awesome. I love it so much, but I need to buy it on DVD as my VHS is getting a little worn...

Hee.

I was deeply obsessed with Alanna as a little kid, to the point of dressing up as her one Halloween and rereading all the books until I had them memorized. I never read Pierce's other stuff, I don't remember why; maybe they weren't out yet? Or maybe I just didn't know about them. Anyway, I reread the Alanna books a couple months ago, and loved them all over again (look! I even have an icon with a quote!), and have been planning to go through her new stuff.

The Baroque Cycle is so good. I love Jack, and the story is amazing, and plus by the end I knew so much more about the origin of money and science and that era of history.

I doooo. They all look like so much fun to write. More fun than "Theory in the Ancient Middle Niger" anyway, so clearly I should have fanfiction for a homework assignment.

I want to watch it! I just need to find a copy.

Just because it's one of those weird coincidences (and I know there's a better name for it - synchronicity?) - [livejournal.com profile] interlock on my flist just posted this morning about [livejournal.com profile] themollyhouse (Queerish book-of-the-month club), which is apparently reading Swordspoint as its October book. The community seems to be about print books and not fanfic, but maybe you might find someone else who's a big fan?

Oh, that's excellent! Thank you so much; regardless of whether I find other fans, I'd love to see what people have to say about it.

Hey, do you read Ars regularly? *waves* It’s one of my fave tech blogs out there.

Cubicles… I keep the radio on NPR for those bouts of boredom when no work comes in which seems common in the mornings. Also, I feel so out of touch with the world when I don’t get my daily NPR fix. And every Friday, I got into withdrawal when I don’t get my Daily Show fix. Between NPR, BBC and TDS/Colbert Report, I’m a very happy camper. Oh, and on the local news in my area, a one-hour show will devote 15 minutes to sports and a half hour broadcast will devote 5 – 10 minutes on sports so add that to the list of substance-sucking distractions on the local news.

Heh, no, unfortunately. I just picked up the link from someone else. It does look interesting, though. I might start following it.

Ah, I did forget sports! Probably because whenever I am reduced to watching local news, I'll change the channel during the sports segment. I don't need to know highschool football scores, thanks.
