I've finished watching both Gankutsuo and Loveless (I'll write them both up eventually, I'm just busy at the moment) and I need something new to watch.

Other things I've watched and enjoyed recently: Samurai Champloo, Get Backers, Full Metal Alchemist. What should I watch now? Bonus points if the show is something I can get easily off the internet instead of needing to rent it.

The only things I have watched lately have been Host Club and Princess Tutu and neither of those are anything like what you mentioned above.

Ah, no worries, I watch lots of different things. Host Club seems to be getting the most votes, and I have a few friends watching Princess Tutu who're liking it. I think I'll end up watching that first.

Er, second time lucky? My HTML ran away with me. ^^;

I've been catching up on Ouran Host Club (oh Kyouya *_*), and I'm hoping to start Hikaru no Go as soon as I've burned enough anime off my laptop and freed up some space, as several people have been shoving nudging me towards that fandom. I've also heard some good things about Nana.

What I usually do is go to [livejournal.com profile] anime_downloads and browse through their tag index and see if I spot anything interesting. :D :D :D

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Man, Host Club seems to be very popular; I don't know how I never heard of it before. Nana's manga is a favorite of some people I know, though. I hadn't realized it had an anime too.

Ooh, thanks for the link!

There is also [livejournal.com profile] anime_yousendit. XD

Oh, I also heavily reccomend Kannazuki no Miko: shoujo-ai, and mecha, and angst. I love it. *_* One of the few girl-love series that I like.

Eeeeeeeeee! *loves you*

Thank you so much! I was just thinking, after watching Yamato and Kouya in Loveless, that I very much needed some girl-love series to watch.

From: [identity profile] kessie.livejournal.com
I can upload the series, if you like, as I can't remember where I got the torrent - I do remember that the torrent was spelled Kannaduki no Miko, which is a variation on the spelling. It took a bit of searching on google, but I found it. XD

I fangirl Kouya and Yamato SO MUCH. They need more fans, and fic written for them. *_* *adds to to-write list* :D

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
That would be awesome if you would like to, though it's not necessary if it's too much work.

I know, I loved them. They very much need good fic; that ending was so open! I wanted more. Do you know of any good fics offhand? I hadn't started to look for any yet.

Date: 2006-08-08 07:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kessie.livejournal.com
Nah, I promised a few others I'd do it, too. ^^;

I'm afraid not. :| Most of what I've found is drabbles, and there is a comm for them: [livejournal.com profile] morethanzero. Everyone is more obsessed with Ritsuka and Soubi (not that it's wrong to be obsessed with them, it just sort of overwhelms everything else) or the Male Zero. My favourite character is Kio, who also gets very little love.

I think we're going to have to write the fic ourselves. :|

Date: 2006-08-09 02:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Well, thank you!

Oh, a community! Thanks for pointing that out. And heh, I liked Kio too. He's a neat character.

I think we're going to have to write the fic ourselves.

You say that like it's a bad thing. *grins*

Date: 2006-08-09 06:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kessie.livejournal.com
Um. Well. ¬_¬ I do admit that I prefer reading fic to having to write it. But that's just occasional laziness on my part. Ahahaha. *dies*

Date: 2006-08-10 01:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Hee. Actually, me too. But I suppose that having so few fics out already means that, whatever you feel like you writing, it'll be a new idea.

Have you seen X already? Angst! Tragedy! Heroic pyrokinetic hookers who are quietly in love with soft-spoken heroic editors! More angst! More tragedy! And bonus wings!

The Last Exile: I've only just started this steampunk series about complex political wars waged via airship battles, but the animation is lovely, the plot is smart, and there are female fighter pilots.

Bleach: Clunky animation, but incredibly endearing character; also, it has the parakeet cockatiel parakeet of DOOM.

Also, you should read Naruto. It starts slow, but it slowly builds until it became the series that I am more obsessed with now than any other.

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
I should watch X! I tried reading the manga, but I couldn't get into it and gave up after a few volumes, but I feel like I'm missing out on Anime 101 by not knowing the series.

I've been meaning to get into Bleach and Naruto, too. Thanks for the recommendations!

X:
The anime is better than the manga; for one thing, it has a somewhat rushed but satisfying ending. Some plot points are confusing if you haven't read the manga; you can ask me about those. Also, the hero is frickin' obnoxious at the start; he improves. But it is very, very beautiful, and very, very touching, and I adore almost all of the large ensemble cast.

Date: 2006-08-08 07:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com
Naruto: The first volume sets up a lot, but is not terribly well-written. The series slowly improves for the next few volumes, then takes a big jump up in quality at volume 5, then another at about volume 8. It's a shounen fighting series that's really about love and loneliness and found families, and if you stick with it, it becomes really, really powerful and emotional.

The first episode of the anime summarizes most of the first volume of the book, but is better; the next fifteen or so episodes are filler-ish; the anime then alternates between being very fun (great voice acting) and excruciatingly slow. Generally, the manga is better.

Bleach: I like the manga better, but the anime has the benefit of one of the best vocal performances I've ever heard, by the actress playing Rukia. It's worth watching at least the first 20 or so episodes for her. Also, the actor who plays Tsuzuki is in it, as Urahara, and is also wonderful.

I third Ouran High School Host Club, which can be found on the internet and on YouTube, and which is still being released, as far as I can tell.

Also, I really liked Mai-HiME, though I have no idea if you've seen that or not -- it's cute and has really interesting characters.

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Host club is totally winning for most recommendations!

Oo, Mai-HiME looks interesting. I hadn't heard of that one before.

Date: 2006-08-08 07:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] squirrelarmy.livejournal.com
Oh, Mai-HiME is really cool -- well, I think so. ^_^ It's a magical girl adventure with a trio of awesome main characters -- a responsible older-sister type, a badass cool silent type, and a childlike incredible fighter type. They're all awesome in their own way, and there's also an incredible cast of minor characters too. (My favorite characters are Takumi and Akira, the little brother of the main character (Mai) and his ninja roommate. ^_^ They're hilarious.) ...needless to say, I really like the series.

And Host Club definitely deserves the recommendations, cos it's hilarious. ^_^

Have you tried Twelve Kingdoms? It starts off slowly and ends up unfinished but I promise you that somewhere in between it turns out to be amazing. Wonderful world-building, strong female characters, highly slashable on several fronts.

Have you tried Last Exile? It's absolutely gorgeous, good plot, interesting characters, fighter pilots and very non-fighting pilots, mechanics and military. Some interesting exploration of honor and military and fighting and gender. I thought the ending was only okay (rather than superb which is what it had been up til then) but it's easily the most *beautiful* I've watched in a long time.

Ah, I'd heard this one mentioned recently. It does seem like an awesome concept for a series. I'll have to watch it, thanks!

Another vote for Ouran. Sudachi and I have been watching this recently, and oh my god, the crack. Episodes 1-17 are available here: http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/

X is CLAMP tragedy, but very pretty CLAMP tragedy, and a good series.

Have you tried watching Kyou Kara Maoh? More crack, more pretty, and occassionally they have a plot! Not to mention the whole orgy aspect amongst the characters. Anime Kraze has almost all of the episodes available on bittorent...except for the last one.

Probably not one that's going to be easy to find online, since ADV seems to be good about getting downloads for their licensed series removed...but Peacemaker Kurogane is another cool series. Wonderful artwork, interesting characters, and a nice mix of humor and angst.

And I think that'll do.

Date: 2006-08-08 07:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Heh. Host Club sounds like such crack, but so many people like it that it must be good. I'll have to watch it.

I should watch Kyou Kara Maoh, because pratically everyone I know has, but it seems like it's so weird. That's the one with demon mpreg, right? Still, it seems fun.

Oh, Peacemaker Kurogane sounds neat too. Thank you for all the recs!

Date: 2006-08-08 10:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tadity.livejournal.com
Host Club is the good kind of crack, I think. Not much plot, exactly, but it will definately make you laugh.

KKM: No demon mpreg that I can remember! But as the person said below, teen gets flushed down the toilet, thinks he's in the Alps, but no. He's in the Great Demon Kingdon (Genon's name for it), and surprise surprise, he's king.

Small note about KKM that I do love, however. EVERYTHING matters. "The bee that the soldier happened to swat at will come back later and save them all" kind of everything matters. Its pretty fun to watch and go, "Hey! That's from way back when!"

Peacemaker Kurogane is very, very neat. And if you're an English voice actor fan, worth it (IMHO) to hear Braden Hunt (ADV's Hakkai) voice Souji Okita.

And! You're welcome. :)

Echoing the above : if you haven't seen Kyou Kara Maou, you really should.

Boy gets flushed down toilet into another world, discovers he's the new king of the demons. He is then aided, affianced to, and protected by an assortment of really attractive men. Also, drop bears are canon.

Makes for incredibly shiny crack right up till ep. 27, when it grows a plot. (and continues to be shiny, with angst included. ^.^)

*laughs* Wow, that does sound like crack. Still, I know a ton of people who've been watching it, so I suppose I should get in on the good stuff.

If you're looking for more guns and violence, have you seen Trigun?

Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and Dirty Pair Flash were both pretty fun when I was, you know, in high school.

Besides, there's always Avatar. ;) My suppliers bittorrented it for me, and there's always [livejournal.com profile] avatar_episodes

I've recently downloaded all of Rose of Versailles, and I like it a lot. It's old (from the 70's I believe), but the animation is very nice. The plot is interesting and engaging.

Oh, and the main character is an attractive blond with a weapon. (Though her personality is not anything like Sanzo or Hisoka's. Still... blond with weapon.)

Oh yeah, I give another vote for Ouran and KKM.

No problem! I'm all about trying to get more people to watch Rose of Versailles. It's really neat. They include a lot of actual history, and sometimes it ends up providing an interesting look into Japanese culture. The characters may live in 18th century France, but the relationship between Oscar and Andre comes straight from the master/retainer part of samurai culture.

Er, yes, babbling.

I've wanted to watch Loveless. Did you rent it or download it?

I first heard about it ages ago and have wanted to watch it, but I never found a copy. I'm so glad that I'll get to see it now!

Downloaded. You can find a torrent on this page (http://ryuu-rogue.edwardk.info/), near the bottom. It's packaged with a "prolouge", which is really just an interview with the voice-actors. It has a few spoilers for the show, nothing that would ruin the series, but if you really don't like to know anything before watching a show, you might not want to watch it first.
