I'm still hoping to turn the younger one into a tomboy

My darling, innocent, sweet, seven year old cousin knows the word 'fuck'! And felt the need to inform me of this in a room with my mother, her mother, her little sister, grandmother, grandfather, and the elderly neighbor lady, though thankfully no one was listening to us. I am not old enough to go on a "kids today!" rant, and yet.

I didn't know 'fuck' when I was seven. Okay, I probably did. Still! I am disturbed and appalled.

Though, in truth, this conversation hurt my soul much less than the one we go through every time we color:

Her: Is that a boy?
Me: It's a girl.
Her: Well, why does she have short hair?
Me: Girls can have short hair.
Her: Why isn't she wearing a skirt?
Me: Girls can wear pants.
Her: It's better if they wear skirts. Is she wearing make-up?
Me: ...Baby girl, where do you get this from? I know your parents don't act like this.
Her: Everyone knows it, duh.

Sigh... Kids are really something huh? Least they don't seem anywhere near as bad as my "adorable" nieces and nephews.

I absolutely love my baby cousins (due to weird family arrangements, I happened to be one of the main people involved in raising them for the first few years, so now I am far too fond of them to be distracted by anything like an annoying personality), but yeah, I know what you mean. Kids can seriously wear you out.

Oh, yes! You reminded me that I'd been meaning to write up a whole post on this, so I'll spare you the longer explanation for now.

But I ended up choosing the one who described herself as having a "sarcastic sense of humor", since that sounded like someone I would get along with very well. I've talked to her a bit more sense then, and I do feel like we'll work out.
