Okay, I just heard: I've been offically accepted into NYU, with full funding through the Maccracken fellowship (that page is slightly out-of-date, as I'm getting a bit more, but it's the closest I could find).

Why is no one home so I can squee at them?!

And yes, I'm sure you're all getting tired of the constant updates about this, but... dude!

I'm still waiting to hear, I suppose; I haven't yet heard anything from UPenn, and though I know I got into Wisconsin, their funding is done on a separate schedule, and so I don't know anything about how I've done with that, though NYU wins about a million bonus points by simple virtue of being in, you know, New York and not a tiny city in Wisconsin.

At the moment I'm just in shock! I can't imagine making such a big decision; I keep thinking that six months ago I was sitting on a rock in Nevada and telling someone, "Yeah, I'm not really sure what I want to do. I guess I'll need to look up grad schools as soon as I get back to civilization" and now this!

I have no idea! I feel too overwhelmed to make any choice yet. But the more I think about it, the more appealing it sounds; I mean, if I intend to work in academia, I won't have much control over where I live for most of my life- I'll have to go to whatever university hires me. So the chance to live in New York for five or six years, regardless of anything else, is incredibly tempting.

Hmm. Strange. I used to know catesith18, and she changed her username ages ago- probably over a year. Perhaps someone just decided to pass it on to anyone? I still don't know why we were picked; I don't think I've ever written Muraki/Oriya.

And I guess I don't mind, because it hardly looks like a high-maintenance community, but I can't help but think that if they'd just made a post about it, they'd have had some volunteers who wanted the community.
