For this week's prompt, we wrote down various emotions on slips of paper, then drew them out of a hat. I got "happy" and "envious".

Sarah bounded into the room, her grin threatening to split her face in two. She caught sight of Rebecca and shrieked – an actual, full-throated shriek – before racing to her best friend’s side and violently embracing her. “You won’t believe what happened to me!” Sarah shouted, her mouth too close to Rebecca’s ear for that volume.

“Oh, I bet I can,” Rebecca muttered, struggling to maintain her balance with Sarah’s full weight dragging her to one side.

For a moment, Sarah seemed to actually register Rebecca’s disdain. She pulled back enough to blink up at her, her blue eyes innocent and confused. “What?”

“Nothing.” Rebecca returned Sarah’s hug, squeezing her until Sarah was laughing and playfully gasping for breath, her brief glimpse of Rebecca’s true feelings entirely forgotten. “Tell me what happened. Tell me everything.”

Sarah skipped back a step but maintained her hold on Rebecca’s hands, her grip hot and pinching. “I won the lottery!”

The air went out of Rebecca like she’d been punched in the stomach. No. It wasn’t possible. She’d been ready for nearly anything – Sarah being promoted, Sarah being asked out by her current crush, Sarah’s’s annoying roommate moving out – but this was too much. Sarah had always had uncannily good luck; everything she wanted seemed to fall into her hands without the slightest effort on her part. But the lottery? What were the odds of that?

“H-how much did you win?” Rebecca asked, fighting to sound somewhat happy. Maybe it was one of the lesser prizes, maybe it was a scratch-off card, maybe it won’t be that much....

“Ten million dollars!” Sarah’s shout of joy rang off the ceiling, piercing as an icepick to the heart.

Ha! That's amazing. Someone should actually write a novel based on this; I'd read it!

I was inspired by Iago from Othello, so unfortunately I don't think it goes well for either of them....
