Another attempt at that music meme...

Name three songs that make you smile
Matthew Good - Empty Road
Well, child, there ain't no worries
And child, it ain't no thing
'Cause this world's too old to hate you
And too young to give up spring

This song makes me happy. It's so slow and peaceful. It reminds me of some old folk tune.

Fall Out Boy - Dance Dance
Why don't you show me the little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress, love?

Oh, Fall Out Boy. I should hate you, I really should. You are so emo, and your lyrics are so very teenage angst. But your music's really boppy, and somehow it all works, and I have not stopped listening to your CD since I bought in May. My absolute favorite song of theirs is 'Sugar, We're Going Down' with its "A loaded gun complex/Cock it and pull it" chorus, but I'm uploading this one because I was listening to it earlier today.

Badly Drawn Boy - Plan B
If everything fails
We change the rules
Revert to plan B

This song has a slow beginning, but once it takes off, I adore it.

Name three songs that make you sad
The Spill Canvas - The Tide
Heaven's not a place that you go when you die
It's that moment in life when you actually feel alive
So live for the moment
And take this advice, live by every word
Love is just a hoax, so forget what you have heard
And live for the moment now

Actually, this is a surprisingly hopeful song, considering that it's about three children drowning.

Magnetic Fields - No One Will Ever Love You
No one will ever love you honestly
No one will ever love you for your honesty.

So sad. But random fun fact: this song is on the Konzen/Kenren soundtrack I made while writing the fic for them.

Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts - Exile
When the thunder breaks the empty sky
I shall be there.

Awww, sad. I just found this on my harddrive, but I can't remember where I got it from.

Name three songs that make you want to dance
M.I.A. - 10 Dolla
Need a visa? Got with a geezer.
Need some money?
Paid him with her knees up.

Dear God, I love this song more than is probably healthy. I would adore to hear it in a club.

Imogen Heap - I Am in Love with You
No, don't get yourself in situations,
No, don't get yourself in situations,
Darling, that you can't handle.

So good. I picked this one up a few weeks ago over at [livejournal.com profile] lyricaldesktops, and have already listened to it 28 times, according to Itunes. To compare, my very top rated song is at 61 plays.

Lagaan OST - Mitwa
(Lyrics are in Hindi, so I have no idea what they're saying.)
Poppy Bollywood music. Who wouldn't want to dance to that?

Name three songs that make you want to sing them at the top of your lungs
Matthew Good - Oh Be Joyful
Oh, be joyful
'Cause that shit spreads.

Yes, I'm obsessed with Matthew Good. Hush. I love this song.

Various Production - Hater
See you later
I'd hate to see you soon

This song makes me melt. Mmmmmmm.

Idan Raichel Project - Hinech Yafa (Thou Art Fair)
(Lyrics are a Hebrew and Amharic version of the Song of Songs)
I think I've uploaded this one before. I don't care. Despite the fact that I don't speak either Hebrew or Amharic, this song makes me want to sing the "lalalala" parts.

Name three songs that make you think of your childhood
Tori Amos - Precious Things (Live)
These precious things
Let them break their hold on me.

The lyrics work, but that's not the only reason I picked this song. I can remember dancing wildly to it, in socks on the kitchen linoleum, playing this song on my headphones as loud as it would go. Live version because I figure most people have the regular one.

Shawn Mullins - Rockabye
Everything's going to be alright,
Rockabye, rockabye.

I think I found this on a BtVS vid.

Tori Amos - Yes Anastasia (Live)
We'll see how brave you are
I was obsessed with Tori for years.

Name three songs that remind you of your teenage years:
Thea Gilmore - Mainstream
If we grow up
We're all going to be famous

Yes. Yes indeed.

Jack Off Jill - Strawberry Gashes
I lay quiet
Waiting for her voice to say,
"Some things you lose and some things you just give away"

I listened to this song so. many. times. in high school. I thought that line was really deep.

Sneaker Pimps - Six Underground (Nellee Hooper Mix)
Don't think 'cause I understand
I care
Don't think 'cause I'm talking
We're friends

Ahahahaha. That does not totally apply to me in high school, no, what are you talking about?

Name three songs that make you think about someone special:
Peter Mulvey - Ithaca
All I know is that you've gone and left us here below
All I wish is that you'd stay

Best song ever for missing someone.

Massive Attack - Better Things
Here me say
Better things will surely come our way

A similar song, though a much happier one.

Mindless Self Indulgence - You'll Rebel to Anything (As Long As It's Not Challenging)
It's time you invested in a bottle of poison
So we don't have to hear about you bitching and moaning
You'd think you could afford a fucking bottle of aspirin

Heh. Well, it didn't say the song had to make you think something nice.

Name three songs that make you think about yourself now:
Damien Rice - Seven Nation Army
Don't wanna hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell

Um, I don't know why this reminds me of me. It just does. Also, I love it, not that I've said that about every song or anything.

Indigo Girls - Msytery
You like the taste of danger
It shines like sugar on your lips
You like to stand in the line of fire
Just to prove you can shoot straight from the hip

Those lines make me incoherent with love.

Say Hi to Your Mom - The Forest Scares the Hell Out of Me
And I miss the city, the buildings
Where the brick is the only thing that's exposed
And as long as you don't fall into the cracks in the road
You'll make it home

I needed this song while I was in Nevada. Unfortunately, I found it afterward. Still good music, though.

Oh man, that Imogen Heap song is fabulous -- thanks for the links.

Funny, I almost picked Seven Nation Army, too, but the White Stripes' version; still, no matter how you slice it, it's a mind-blowing song.

Isn't it, though? I just keep playing it and dancing around when I'm somewhere no one can see me.

Hee, that's strange. It was a last minute addition, too. I do love the White Stripe's original, but I heard the Damien Rice first, and it's the one that really struck me.

If you didn't get "Exile" from me, I'd like to know where you got it, because I don't know anyone else in fandom who knows the joy of Kate Rusby. *G*

It might have been you, but if it wasn't, my guess would be that I got it from Mely, if just because it was in a folder with some other songs I know I did get from her. But I really have no idea, so it might be yet another person.

Aww, No One Will Ever Love You. I heart this song.

And the Imogen Heap song *is* fabulous. You're awesome for sharing, thank you.

It is wonderful. And I'm becoming a big fan of Imogen Heap recently. I'd heard one of her songs a few years ago, but it was very slow and jazz-ish, not at all like this, so I'd assummed that was what all her music sounded like.

And no worries! I love to spread music around.

Idan Raichel Project - Hinech Yafa (Thou Art Fair).

I downloaded this and put in on loop, and my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic is practically pouring out. WHEE! (Am clearly going to have to send this to my recipient, somehow, to listen along with reading the fic.)

Have been singing the 'lalalala' bits, too, even though I can't get the trippy tongue feeling quite right. *g*

That song is my heart and soul and I love it more than I can say, and so I'm very happy you really like it too. Especially if it's producing writing!
