Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] katsue_fox!

Flowers, three linked drabbles for [livejournal.com profile] fuda_100's Childhood challenge. See, I'd known I wanted to write something that tied together Tsuzuki, Hisoka and Muraki, that I wanted three separate drabbles with the same theme or even same event, and just different circumstances. But I didn't know what that common thread should be.

I have no idea why it turned out to be flowers.

If you haven't seen Jon Stewart on Crossfire yet, you should find a copy. It's great. There's downloads up now here or a clip here. Speaking of downloads, there's a wonderful song called 'November Song' by Nuit up for free download on Amazon. I was listening to it all night yesterday. A Perfect Circle also has a new single out, a cover of 'Imagine', that you can listen to on their site. They apparently have a new CD coming out November 2nd. As if I didn't already have enough things coming out in November that I need to buy. Joseph Arthur has a very sad single called 'All Our Hands' up for download on his site.

And now in return for the music, I need your help- give me Hisoka fic recs! This is for my essay on him over at [livejournal.com profile] reflections_2, and just like for the Tsuzuki/Hisoka essay, recommend anything, even if you think I already know it, even if everyone in the world already knows it. Shippy fics are okay- any pairing- but I'm really looking for things that focus on him as a character.

Thank you for the birthday wishes! *Huggles*

Argh, trying to think of Hisoka fic recs but my brain is kind of fried right now - one of the best Hisoka fics I've read is by Demonprist and I'm sure I also recced it on the Tsusoka ML some time back, but I can't remember what it's called!! ^^;; (Yeah, I know that's not a lot of use, is it?! If I remember what it's called, I'll let you know!

Aw, no worries! *hugs*

And hey, I know which one you're talking about! I was trying to think og it earlier. It's called... hmm, something about peace. But now that I have the author, I can find it. Thanks! ^^

Palette (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=1147) by Boni (Tat/Tsu pairing, Hisoka POV). Little Things, Change Into, Perfect, Osmose (WIP AU, Mur/His rape), all by Sleeps With Coyotes (http://ciceqi.slashcity.com/YnM.htm) and all but the last one Tsu/His, Hisoka POV. Clean Kill (http://phantom.bleeding-moon.net/cleankill.html) by Hth. Blood Moon (http://www.roseargent.com/bloodmoon.html) by Rose Argent. Here I Am (http://samizdat.maskedinnocence.com/craving/hereiam.html) by Yasmin M. Also her Long Way Down (http://samizdat.maskedinnocence.com/craving/longwaydown.html).

Yeah. That's a start.

Yes, a second for Clean Kill. That one's so good. All those are good, but I came over here to rec Clean Kill, sooo...

It is good. I wish she'd write more YnM stuff.

I wish she'd write more anime stuff, period-- her hakkai/goyjo is extremely lickable.

I haven't read that, but the things she wrote for the Buffy fandom were just amazing. I adore her style.

The Hakkai/Gojyo is up at Animate-- her description of Gojyo is just so perfect and sexy-- and there's a very funny, really Sanzo/Goku there too. Also, CCS but I don't know that fandom well enough.

Ooo, thank you! I'd almost forgotten Clean Kill. Don't know how that happened...

And I do so love all of sleepswithcoyote's stuff, but I try to pick just one fic per author. That was a tough choice to make.

That's one of those cases where I just rec the author in general. *G*

Hmm. To be honest, I can't really think of anything that [livejournal.com profile] ranalore hasn't recommended, except Harukami's 30 Minutes (http://harukami.hanashika.com/fanfic/YnM/30minutes.html) and Scars (http://harukami.hanashika.com/fanfic/YnM/scars.html). Also Melymbrosia's Rewritten on the Body (http://www.livejournal.com/users/untrue_accounts/13999.html). I think Hisoka's one of those characters that most people think they can write adequately, but few actually write anything that makes me go "Wow." And it's especially difficult to find fics that focus on him.

Very true. There's a million fics with him in them, but since I'm not going to rec anything that features him behaving like a five-year-old girl, it kinda narrows down the field.

*grins* Not that I'm, you know, bitter or anything.

I'm really fond of the Hisoka in The Other Side of Twilight, (http://www.brightwanderer.net/twilight/index.html") actually-- though he feels like such an outsider/observer, he's really the pin on which everything turns, and I like that.

The Color Orange (http://www.livejournal.com/community/yamifics/69262.html) is way short but i liked it.

I'm still not 100% sure I buy all of Hisoka's characterization in Portrait of the Empath as an Involuntary Voyeur (http://www.livejournal.com/users/p_zeitgeist/543.html) but I liked it anyway, and you could present it as an alternate take on him if you don't.

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Thank you!

And that's a good idea- and it reminds me of a few other fics that have sorta controversial interpretations of his character. Not bad- they're all really good, actually- but definetely not the mainstream view.

Date: 2004-10-18 12:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com
Yeah, I'm glad you included some alternate takes-- it made it seem more complete, while still being clearly about your Hisoka.

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
Well, hey, anything that's well-written...

I do still like those fic ones. Like History (which is the one where Hisoka's anorexic, if you've read it), I like it, and she definetely protrays the situation as based in canon and very possible. I don't agree, but that doesn't mean I don't like reading it.

Date: 2004-10-18 01:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com
No, I haven't read that one. notgonnasayitnotgonnasayitnotgonnasayit...oh, yes I am.

...how can dead people be anorexic?

From: [identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com
*laughs*

Well, the idea isn't that he's trying to lose weight, but that it's a control issue left over from what Muraki did to him. Like I said, I'm not convinced, but it works in the fic.
