Happy birthdays, music, fic.

I have no idea why it turned out to be flowers.
If you haven't seen Jon Stewart on Crossfire yet, you should find a copy. It's great. There's downloads up now here or a clip here. Speaking of downloads, there's a wonderful song called 'November Song' by Nuit up for free download on Amazon. I was listening to it all night yesterday. A Perfect Circle also has a new single out, a cover of 'Imagine', that you can listen to on their site. They apparently have a new CD coming out November 2nd. As if I didn't already have enough things coming out in November that I need to buy. Joseph Arthur has a very sad single called 'All Our Hands' up for download on his site.
And now in return for the music, I need your help- give me Hisoka fic recs! This is for my essay on him over at

Date: 2004-10-16 02:28 pm (UTC)Argh, trying to think of Hisoka fic recs but my brain is kind of fried right now - one of the best Hisoka fics I've read is by Demonprist and I'm sure I also recced it on the Tsusoka ML some time back, but I can't remember what it's called!! ^^;; (Yeah, I know that's not a lot of use, is it?! If I remember what it's called, I'll let you know!

Date: 2004-10-18 12:16 pm (UTC)And I do so love all of sleepswithcoyote's stuff, but I try to pick just one fic per author. That was a tough choice to make.

Date: 2004-10-18 12:18 pm (UTC)I think Hisoka's one of those characters that most people think they can write adequately, but few actually write anything that makes me go "Wow." And it's especially difficult to find fics that focus on him.
Very true. There's a million fics with him in them, but since I'm not going to rec anything that features him behaving like a five-year-old girl, it kinda narrows down the field.

Date: 2004-10-17 08:58 pm (UTC)The Color Orange (http://www.livejournal.com/community/yamifics/69262.html) is way short but i liked it.
I'm still not 100% sure I buy all of Hisoka's characterization in Portrait of the Empath as an Involuntary Voyeur (http://www.livejournal.com/users/p_zeitgeist/543.html) but I liked it anyway, and you could present it as an alternate take on him if you don't.

Date: 2004-10-18 12:19 pm (UTC)And that's a good idea- and it reminds me of a few other fics that have sorta controversial interpretations of his character. Not bad- they're all really good, actually- but definetely not the mainstream view.

Date: 2004-10-18 12:54 pm (UTC)I do still like those fic ones. Like History (which is the one where Hisoka's anorexic, if you've read it), I like it, and she definetely protrays the situation as based in canon and very possible. I don't agree, but that doesn't mean I don't like reading it.

Date: 2004-10-18 01:24 pm (UTC)...how can dead people be anorexic?

Date: 2004-10-18 02:25 pm (UTC)Well, the idea isn't that he's trying to lose weight, but that it's a control issue left over from what Muraki did to him. Like I said, I'm not convinced, but it works in the fic.
