A meme from [personal profile] evelyn_b, who gave me "T". If you'd like a letter of your own, just leave a comment.

Something I hate: Tumblr! Though, ha, only kind of; I enjoy the general social community of fandom, of course, but I am still yearning for the day when we all migrate to another platform that functions better, at least for my own needs.

Something I love: Well, I would say tea (especially green tea), but that's too close to [personal profile] evelyn_b's answer. So, how about travel? I haven't gone anywhere particularly exciting in the last year, and I'm missing it.

Somewhere I’ve been: Time Square. Or, if that's too obvious, the Taj Mahal.

Somewhere I’d like to go: Thailand! Mainly for the food, though the landscape looks lovely too, and Bangkok is supposedly lots of fun to visit.

Someone I know: ...I have an Uncle Tom? This is kind of an odd question, really.

A film I like: I suppose it's too easy to do a movie that starts with "the", isn't it? That would be cheating. So I'll go with Tangled, which I liked WAY better than Frozen, and so am a little bitter that it's the latter which really took off.

Ha, we are so in agreement on Tumblr, tea/travel, and Tangled vs Frozen :D

Thanks! I've done the meme before, but it's a fun one to do more than once, so I'll happily take the L :)

It's a very common name!

If you want a letter, have M.

Sometimes I wish I could love tumblr, because it's so easy to post gigantic pictures, for those times when what you want to do is post a gigantic picture. But I found it impossible to get comfortable there, so I've been avoiding it. Maybe someday, maybe not.

I had the opportunity to go to the Taj Mahal and I DIDN'T, because I was too tired and sick and just wanted to lie around in a hotel room for another day instead of getting on a bus. Now I regret it a lot. It's not like I was any less sick in my boring non-Taj Mahal hotel room!

I have yet to see Tangled. Maybe someday I will?

Yup, that's basically my feelings about tumblr. It's fine for some things, but it's just not at all set up for conversations or long pieces of writing, which is what I want.

Aww, I'm sorry you missed the Taj Mahal! It is quite beautiful, but the thing I was most surprised by was how small it is. I was imagining something like a castle or a palace, but it's only one room!

I mean, animated kid's movies is clearly genre that not everyone enjoys, but if you do, then I would indeed recommend Tangled! Though I think Princess and the Frog is my very favorite of the Disney post-Renaissance movies.

I have a lot of complaints to lodge about the plot/structure/other elements of The Princess and the Frog, but Tiana is my favorite Disney heroine by a mile and a half at least. Her dreams are so specific! And I love her friendship with the ditzy (but sweet and well-meaning) rich girl.

I don't love the Disney 3-D look at all -- it's very samefacey and uncanny-valley to me -- but I can suck it up if the rest of the movie is good.

Yeah, it's not a perfect movie, but I do admire the effort it put into creating a very specific, very detailed setting, and especially how the music mimicked multiple real-world genres from New Orleans. Like, there's a gospel song ("Dig a Little Deeper", Mama Odie's song), a Zydeco song ("Gonna Take You There", the firefly's song), ragtime ("Down in New Orleans", the opening song), etc. None of them are the best examples of the genre, but at least they tried! I respect that.

Music is really one of the least effective aspect of the recent Disney movies, in my opinion. The songs tend to be very same-y and not at all memorable. At least Frozen has "Let It Go", which *does* count as catchy, but it makes no sense in regards to the overall plot or characterization, and most of the other songs in that movie are fairly terrible. Tangled unfortunately also has no stand-out songs.

I actually really liked "Mama Knows Best" and "I Have a Dream", but I tend to be very much a lyrics over melody person, and I suspect those songs probably work better as "patter" than as actual songs?

I also loved those songs (Mama Knows Best/Reprisal is SO much fun to sing) - though personally melody has always trumped lyrics (I listen to a lot of pop this way :P)

Agreed about Tangled! So charming and much more emotional punch than Frozen.

I'm glad so many people are with me! Clearly someone must prefer Frozen, but the people here have better taste. ;)

And if you want a letter, I say B!

Tangled is sooo much better, I totally agree. Even just on musical quality alone. I mean, the Mother Knows Best stuff alone! Or the I've Got a Dream! And I have rarely fallen in love with the gorgeousness of the scenery so fast. By the first visual of the tower I wanted to live there.

Yes! Have you seen the early concept art where all the backgrounds are these Romantic watercolors? They're so gorgeous, and I think that came out really well in the finished movie.

Oops, and I forgot to say: if you want a letter, have R!

Yes! It's so gorgeous omg. I kind of wish they could incorporate all the details into the movie, but I imagine that animation is still...quite a ways off, alas! But I love what we got in the film too. So wonderful.

I do already have a letter, from evelyn_b! But thanks, maybe I'll do both.
