And for
strangedreams and
solis, from the Alive paper's 'Best of Columbus':
Best Place for Anne Rice and Joss Whedon to Meet for Drinks
Outland
1024 Perry St.
If the mother of The Vampire Lestat and the father of Buffy the Vampire Slayer were getting together to discuss whether vampires are better portrayed as fey rock stars with puffy sleeves or cigarette-smoking British thugs with messed-up foreheads, there would really only be one place to go. Hard to find, like all the coolest clubs always are, Outland is safely snuggled in Harrison West’s industrial area, a perfect spot for a place that specializes in industrial, goth and dance music spun by DJs or laid down live. Even more appealing than its goth rep and live S&M demos are its hours—on Friday and Saturday nights, Outland’s open till 4 a.m., long after most hangouts have turned on the ugly lights, which gives you enough time before dawn to sweat out some alcohol on the dancefloor and still make it home before the sun comes up. It’s Columbus’ perfect after-party, regardless of what the party itself consisted of.

Best Place to Try Drinking Solids Through a Straw
Pochi Tea Station
2060 N. High St.
299-9460
A straw, like the act of drinking itself, is exclusively reserved for liquids, as any sane person can tell you. So are the folks at quirky campus hangout Pochi crazy? Crazy like trendy, beverage-selling foxes! The station specialty is bubble tea, which features chewy, honeyed tapioca pearls floating in a sweet, tea-based beverage. Or you can choose coconut jelly or pudding in your tea, shake or smoothie. And/or chunks of fruit, ranging from the ordinary (apple, strawberry, peach) to the exotic (ginger, chrysanthemum, longan). The whole drinking and eating at the same time thing sounds sort of weird, and it is—but only the first time. Served in fun cups with huge straws (big enough to suck up the bubbles and bits of fruit), Pochi’s potations are delicious and darn near addictive. They also have a menu with plenty of cool snack foods, from Western and Eastern standards like crepes, tofu, wonton and fries to more exotic fare that sounds like something Shaggy and Scooby would chow down on, like banana chocolate cheese toast. After a visit or two, drinks without things floating in them may start to seem rather passé.
Bento Go Go won too, for "Best Place to Enjoy Post-Modern Cuisine at Pre-Modern Prices". And Rag-a-rama won "Best Hip Clothing Store" AND "Best Thrift Store". However, Wall Street won for "Best Dance Club". Boo.
