I was in DC over the weekend, and didn't particularly do much – I've been there enough times before that I've done most of the museums and memorials and other big tourist spots. But I did go to the zoo!

A curious spoonbill! (Way closer to the visitors than I would think you could let wild animals.) And piranhas! I spent a lot of time in the Amazon Rainforest house, because it was actually cooler and less humid than outside in DC.

Some totally adorable poison frogs.

I'm convinced this frog is secretly some sort of mint chocolate dessert. And random turtle!

A terrifyingly red-eyed emu, and a grumpy desert owl.

A panda that seems to have melted in the heat, and a cheetah, my favorite of the big cats!

I'm on Instagram as @noparagraph, by the way, if there's anyone I know here that I'm not already following.

I love the zoo pictures. I know how hard it is to get good ones, having tried a few times with my grandson at the Central Park Zoo.
Since it is tiny, one would think it should be easy, but actually is pretty challenging.

Thank you! The Central Park zoo is surprisingly full of animals for how small it is, I agree. I have to say I prefer the Bronx Zoo, though of course it's much harder to get to. But it's so huge and, hey!, free on Wednesdays. Which I appreciate.

Thank you! I was surprised how well they came out, since shooting through glass windows almost never looks good.

These are awesomesauce! Love the frogs, owl, panda, cheetah...no love for bloody emus, though, I am still pissed at them for pecking my two-year-old fingers at a zoo in Australia 32 years ago.

Thank you! And I would totally be annoyed by that too!
