Watching Monday
Dec. 16th, 2013 04:51 pmSleepy Hollow
I feel like every single flashback to Katrina contradicts something we were told previously. Hopefully it will all be clarified. Eventually.
I feel pretty convinced that Crane's son is going to turn up again; the plotline felt like it was wrapped up too quickly to be entirely done. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to that or not.
ANYWAY. Things I liked:
Crane chopping wood! Yes plz.
THE MOST TERRIFYING DOLL EVER. Seriously, who would give that to a child? Surely Katrina is capable of making something slightly less nightmare-inducing?
Sneaky Abbie manipulating the Sin-Eater into helping them.
Irving and his crisis of faith: more. MORE.
Crane flirting with the librarian!
I am totally shipping Frank/Cynthia, even though that kind of doesn't make sense. DON'T CARE, WANT IT.
Macey!
Terrifying demon eyes!
Terrifying witch teeth!
BASICALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT THE LAST 30 SECONDS: TEARY-EYED CRANE CLUTCHING ABBIE YES GOOD.
And in conclusion, needs more Abbie. And Jenny.
No more new episodes until January! ;_;
No. 6
I finished this! Now I have to decide what series to start next (Leverage, y/y? Though I have a ton of other things ready to watch as well).
This is a lovely series, and more people should watch it. It focuses on a m/m couple that does not fall into seme/uke tropes (both the dudes get angry and shout and fight and cry and laugh and try to protect one another) and that is not just subtext. It also has some really nice female characters who are well-treated by the plot, and there's a lot going on other than just the main romance. It's based on a much longer novel series, and you can sort of feel it in a few places (what was happening with the reporter guy? That clearly needed much more backstory), but it's a very nice, complete story in 11 episodes. Watch it!
American Horror Story: Coven
In general: siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
In specific:I have said over and over again that I hate everything they're doing with Delphine Lalaurie; they've basically reduced her character to 'she killed and tortured people because she was racist', and it just feels so shallow and boring. And to make it even better, she's the "funny" sort of racist. The sort that complains about Obama or "jungle music" but has no real, large-scale consequences.
Continuing on the incredible simplistic trend, apparently she has now been cured of such prejudice by listening to a spiritual. A, as in one, song. I say again: siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
I'm not even commenting on what the hell was going on with the violence inter-cut with said spiritual, mainly because I have no idea what the director was trying to say with that. A witch-hunter going after a voodoo coven (I don't think that's the right word, but nothing on this show makes sense, so) is just like the Civil Rights Movement? There's no way that parallel doesn't sound incredibly terrible, so I'm refusing to engage with it.
And then Kyle ate the dog.
Cowboy Bebop
I've now seen... two episodes of this! Yes, I am way behind everyone else.
