Seen in a few places, but most recently from [livejournal.com profile] threewalls:

If you were asked to pick one scene, one shot, one detail, one moment of some kind out of all the things I've made and say "This, this, for whatever reason, I remember, this is something that struck home with me, that I wanted to keep," what would it be?

So, I was going to find something from Surcease of Pain/Divinity, but I couldn't possibly choose just one section from those, so I'll choose Hisoka's bit from Salt Water:

Not even a sea can wash away scars. I should know.

Listen. Yes, there are dark depths under us, and yes, we never learned to swim. But please. Just a little longer.

Stay with me. If you drown, so do I. Stay with me.

Guh.

#^^# Thank you! Sometimes I look at the stuff I wrote years ago, and all I can see are the flaws, so it makes me really happy to know people like it. Those lines were my favorite part of the story they're in.

From "Not With A Bang":

The carriage had jolted so hard he can still feel the shaking in his bones; it makes his fingers tremble, and he moves slowly to unwrap the package. Inside, there are small sticky squares, lined up like children's candy, and green as arsenic.

Aw, thank you. I really liked that sentence while I was writing it. Though I was worried I'd used "green as arsenic" somewhere else, but if I have, I couldn't find it, so I decided to keep it. And now I'd glad I did!

*wanders by from Friends-of-Friends*

From "Of Smoke and Gold and Breathing":
Alec's hair was heavier when wet, and darker, and cold where the air touched it, so that it felt different in his hands, like something slippery and strange. But when he reached the scalp, Alec's body heat had been trapped under the outside layer, and it was warm, there behind his ears and in the shallow hollow where his neck met his skull.

This really epitomizes Richard and Alec's relationship at that point in time: Alec's heat, beneath his icy, prickly exterior, and Richard's absolute fascination with him. It's just the perfect Richard-and-Alec story.

(You are always welcome here!)

Oh, thank you. It makes me so happy that people like that story; it felt like such a silly, self-indulgent thing while I was writing it. It really touches me that you remember it.

I love this whole story, but this:

And while she was working, her baby could go to a day care with lots of other babies, and play all day. Her baby was going to have so many friends that Hisoka wouldn’t be able to keep track of their names. And her baby wouldn’t need a father, because Hisoka would get them both everything they wanted. Her baby would never, never be locked alone in a room, just in case someone might notice she wasn’t the male firstborn heir her parents had promised.

I love this, because it's so much about alt!Hisoka, but it's so much about canon!Hisoka too.

Thank you! Hee, I never would have guessed that someone would choose that bit, and I'm really pleased you did.

I was really, really close to remixing that one of the half-a-million times I got assigned you for a remix!

This description is so beautiful, with such perfect details, that it's stuck with me for years:

The wine here was red, mostly, and very dry; Alec cursed it, and when he'd had too much, threatened to make concoctions of the sour wine mixed with the sweet, golden local honey, though he'd yet to carry through. The land was like that, too: a mix of extremes. The interior of the island was a vast plain marred only by a few, dusty roads; the heat relieved only by the air's utter aridity. It was unlike any summer Richard had experienced. He knew summers thick with thunderstorms, the air steamy enough to make the heat hard to bear, horizons lost in a haze. On Kyros, though, there was no rain in the summer. He could hear bells sometimes, goat herds heading out for baked yellow grass, but the fields lay fallow, having been harvested months before. Alec described groves of olive trees, trunks thick, he said, as ugly girls, and gnarled as the hands of old swordsmen, but there was nothing much else in the interior.

I am so very pleased you liked that paragraph, and so very embarrassed to admit that the inspiration was incredibly unpoetic. It is, in fact, quite the style in Cyprus to drink their red wine (which is incredibly dry, or at least so it seemed to me, but I have a sweet tooth and no tolerance for dry wines) with Coca Cola.

Belatedly, because as with Dorian I had the devil's own time narrowing this down:

All of "We Will Become Silhouettes." And also this: He'd closed his eyes- reflex, not fear, because he'd never admit it had stopped his breath to see the magic coming at him like a burning wind.

I never mind late comments! And besides, less than a week- that hardly even counts as belated.

Thank you! I don't think I would ever have written "We Will Become Silhouettes" without being prompted to it; it's just such a topic to write fanfiction on (and I know, I know: I shouldn't denigrate fanfiction as a genre, but you must admit that nuclear war and curtain-shopping don't usually appear in the same post). I'm very glad people like it, because it made me very nervous.

And thank you for the other line, as well! That's one of my favorites too, to be honest.
