LJ: Your Opinion!

Thank you for all your advice on London sight-seeing! But now I have another question: if you were going to do a one-day trip from London to somewhere else, where would you go?

Stipulations:
It's going to be this weekend (ie, the 10th and/or 11th of April), so it can't be anything that requires a booking far in advance
It has to be one-day, back in London for sleeping
We're already going to Cardiff in Wales, so don't recommend that (I have to visit the university there for business, so if you know things I should see while in Cardiff, let me know!)
Hopefully not crazy-expensive
Is it better to travel on Saturday or Sunday? I have this impression that more stuff might be closed on Sundays, but I don't know if that's true.

Where else should I visit, LJ?

1. Oxford, where you can do a lot of walking around and looking at medieval buildings and thinking "I'm in Oxford!" or pick up a walking tour, which will take you around and give you history.

2. Or Brighton

3. Or do Hampton Court Palace as your one-day, as it's large enough to take a lot of time.

4. Blenheim Palace, which is not very far from Oxford IIRC and, if you've got a full day, might be squeezed into an Oxford day.

5. Paris. Long day, but it can be done via Eurostar or a short hop on a plane.

And when Toby and I go to Cardiff this fall, we plan on finding the shrine to Ianto at Cardiff Bay (5th photo down (http://bettina.dreamwidth.org/677781.html)). XD

Ha! My girlfriend is way into Torchwood, so we will definitely be seeing all the Ianto stuff, even if I don't watch the show.
