Yuletide!

Yuletide sign-ups are open! In case you somehow missed all of fandom talking about it. Important note: if you have been disqualified from Yuletide before, you can still sign up! That's right, all bans have been erased. So come and play!

Sign-ups are open until Thursday the 12th at 9pm EST. I haven't signed up myself yet, as I'm still looking at my requests and offers and deciding what I want. I usually sign up to write for every fandom I've ever heard of, but this year I've decided to narrow down and only offer things I feel passionate about. Also, True Blood is in Yuletide! I feel like it's probably too big, but it's too late to change now, and so I am excited.

Other neat links: Dark_agenda, a Dreamwidth community for the 'Diversity in Yuletide 2009' challenge. You can read more at the community, but the basic idea is: request and offer fandoms with chromatic (aka PoC) creators and characters.

You're going for it? I'd had the impression that you, Dorian and I were probably going to be the only nonparticipants this year, so that if I didn't sign up I'd have my own pre-made support group when everyone else was writing and I was feeling all left out and stupid.

Note: This is not to be construed as any attempt to persuade you not to do it! It's more in the nature of admiring your valor from afar.

Or from anear, I suppose, if I should crack too. But I'll be surprised if I do.

I am, if just because I've always done it (or tried, at least. I did default once). Not doing Yuletide would feel like not celebrating Christmas, or more accurately like losing my last remaining thread of a claim to be participating in fandom. Besides, cutting down my offered fandoms to just a few should make it fairly easy. But mostly I think I just want to have something to talk about, hee.

Whatever your reason, I'm delighted!

Aw, thank you!

I finally sat down and made a list of fandoms I'm willing to write in, and I'm going to make my requests from that list too. It's going to be a fairly short because I only offer fandoms whose canon I already have or can get my hands on quickly, and that I think I can decently write in.

Yeah, my requests and offers almost entirely overlap (there's one I'm requesting but that I don't think I could write well) this year too. I feel like I've earned it, since I've spent so many years offering multitudes of fandoms!

Yuletide!!!

Also, dark_agenda has really made me ponder the problematic aspects (and there are a lot of them) of my beloved Moulin Rouge. Yeah, yeah, historic accuracy of attitudes blah blah, but it's not like the movie is exactly an example of rigorous realism otherwise, so. My request is Satine-centered, and I honestly think the source is too problematic to suggest for the lists being kept for dark_agenda, but I hope I'm not the only white chick now really looking at background characters like Arabia, China Doll, the Unconscious Argentinian, and Chocolat.

It's been a couple of years since I watched Moulin Rouge, but now that you point it out, um, yeah. That is very true. Maybe you'll get signed up to write a story about it?

Also, Yuletide!!!

but now that you point it out, um, yeah

I still love it, but this last time I watched it, I was like, "...Wow. Umm, yay worldview progress?" *facepalm* Also, I can neither confirm nor deny rumors of my offered fandoms, but let's just say, dark_agenda made me think about the way I signed up for a few of them, and the range of stories that are possible.

Yay, Yuletide!

I always love sorting through that giant list of fandoms and rediscovering old favorites and realizing there's somebody else out there who also loves Boox X or Show Y. I go back and forth between offering everything I've ever heard of or only the fandoms I'm completely comfortable with, and usually end up somewhere in the middle.

The fandom list really is so much fun. I love going through it, too, particularly since it sometimes leads me to discovering awesome new fandoms.
