I got a new mac for Christmas! Yay! I just realized I have to reformat my ipod to use it with it. ...argh, redoing all my playlists, argh.

Anyway. Racheline will be here in two days! Yay!

What podcasts do you all listen to? I want to, but I don't know what the interesting ones are. I suppose it would help if I picked a topic, but eh. Recommend me things regardless!

Welcome to the Mac world! :D

I... don't listen to any podcasts, sorry.

(I also never reformatted my iPod to work with the Mac because I was too lazy. So it hasn't got any updates in about a year, but it works fine otherwise. Of course, ripping all my playlists from the iPod to the Mac messed them all up anyway, so it'd probably be a good thing if I went back to factory settings. Hmmm...)

Yes, I have been converted!

Hee. It's less that I care about updates, but I need to add more music! (And you need to convert it to do that, right? Perhaps I am mistaken.)

...nope. My iPod updates with new songs and playlists, no problem. I just can't install actual updates to the iPod itself.

...or is this a US/European iPod difference I don't know about?

Oh, hey! Maybe I don't need to reformat it then. I haven't tried it yet, but I had heard online that you needed to convert before using a Windows ipod with a mac. But I would be totally happy if that wasn't necessary.

Well, mine still works and hasn't exploded or died.

That said, I have no idea if your playlists will remain intact, or not. mind pretty much got scrambled.

*crosses fingers for you*

Hmmm. Scrambling would be annoying, but since I'd have to redo them anyway if I reformat, I think it's worth a try!

If you want to keep all your old playlists and such, you should be able to use iPodRip (http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/application.php?app=iPodRip) to back up them/the contents of your iPod - that's what I did when I transitioned from my old PC to my Mac.

:)

I also did not need to reformat, but ymmv? Maybe applies to different versions of iPod/OS of PC/Mac?

Ah, thank you! All my files and playlists are still on my PC, so it's not as though I've lost them- I was just annoyed at the thought of having to transfer everything. But I am going to hope now that I don't need to reformat!

Charlotte (my Mac) salutes you. ^^

Sadly, I don't listen to podcasts that much (after throwing a tantrum discovering that I can't download even free things from iTunes without giving my credit card number and living in one of certain countries, none of them being Poland), but I do listen to LibriVox audiobooks (they got lots of Jeeves and Wooster;-p). Not helpful, am I.

Hee! I haven't named this computer yet. I need to think about what to call it.

Oh, wow, that sucks. I love LibriVox, though! I've been listening to their 'War and Peace' for a while now.

My mum's friend, a priest, used to tell that all computers should have a nice, biblical names:) Thus we had Sarahs and Rachels:-D Is yours a he or she? :D *dork*

'War and Peace'! I'm impressed by your ability to focus while listening...

btw, I really liked yours (er, written for you) Yule stories! Though I skipped the one with spoilers for the Privilege of the Sword, as my copy is still somewhere in the post...

Hee! Most of my computers have been he's, but I'm not sure about this one yet. It has a very subtle personality, it's been hard to get a sense of what to name it.

Heh, it's not so impressive. I just listen to it when I'm on the subway and have nothing else to do.

Good to know! I really enjoyed them also.

Subscribe IMMEDIATELY to This American Life, you can find it in the iTunes podcast section under the Featured Provider link to PRI (Public Radio International). OMG, every single week you get to hear the most amazing stories ever of incidents in people's lives, centered around themes. This American Life and Dan Savage's Savage Lovecast (it started out rather sucky and has gotten excellent) are essential. I also (sometimes) listen to Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me!, On the Media, Slate podcasts, and the Gay Pimpin' with Johnny McGovern (http://gaypimp.com/) podcast. Which I love with an unhealthy love.

Oh, awesome! I love Dan Savage's column, so I'm totally excited that he has a podcast. And I'll have to try the others, too. Thank you!

The first Savage podcasts were Dan rambling a lot and having no idea what he was doing, really. The recent ones have gotten better. And it's kind of awesome when he calls the people up on the phone and yells at them.

hopped over from RM's journal...

I love podcasts! I third the recommendation for This American Life (NPR). I also listen to Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me (NPR's weekly news quiz), Japanese Pod 101, The Rachel Maddow Show (Green960), and KCRW's The Treatment.

I need to go on another search for movie review podcasts that don't suck.

Oo, those all sound good. Thank you!

I love movie reviews, but it's so hard to find someone who's views you agree with. I really like the Antagony and Ecstasy (http://antagonie.blogspot.com/) blog.
