Does anyone have recommendations for a good hostel in London? Heh, I can't believe I almost forgot to make a reservation before I left, but I suppose if this is the only thing I forget, I'll be doing pretty good.

I absolutely cannot remember the name of the place I stayed in London, but I recommend a student residence over a hostel.

I found this site. (http://www.studystay.com/portal/london_university_rooms.htm?gclid=CLCy3_m9p4wCFSFbgAodkA0I1w)

The place I stayed was only a few quid more than the hostels I'd been in, and infinitely more comfortable.

Enjoy London!

If you're looking for a hostel centrally located, your best bets are the Generator (just off Russell Square and a couple of blocks from the British Library/King's Cross area on the Euston Rd.) or the "London St. Pauls" (sandwiched between St. Pauls and the Thames, within easy walking distance of the rebuilt Shakespeare's Globe via the Millenium Bridge). The main difference between the two is that the Generator is more of a funky party place and the London St. Pauls is a bit quieter. Both are convenient to any transport you need.

If you don't mind being a bit outside the absolute center of the action, the Dover Castle Hostel in Southwark (also near the Globe, but in the other direction) has a reasonably good reputation and is in a great-looking building.

(also sent by rm) And also seconding the Generator. I spent over a week there, found it convenient to Tube, well-organized and staffed, and generally just a great experience in all respects. Also, I made my reservations online well in advance (through studios92.com, if memory serves) and wound up paying like 11 quid a night for my lodging, which was far and away my cheapest stay. Plus, the bare-bones-but-all-you-can-eat morning breakfast buffet included was a huge help to me in stretching my dining dollars per day.

By no means should you stay at the Millennium hostel in London. Crappy, crappy, crappy experience, including losing my reservation info and.... just lots.

Oh yay! You will be in London. I've got no useful hostel addresses, but if you had time/wanted to meet up I live quite near. Drop me an email or something! (louiselux at livejournal dot com)

I loved loved loved the Ashlee House when I was in London. Great location and fairly cheap. Nice people, clean rooms etc.
