I've been having very badly chapped lips this winter, so in an attempt to stop myself from biting them and making them worse, a while ago I bought some expensive lip gloss. A few hours after that, my bag was stolen and that lip gloss was among the things stolen. I know, who the hell steals lip gloss?

Yesterday, for the same reason, I decided the chapstick I had wasn't working well enough, and so I bought some of the heavy-duty medicated stuff. It has now disappeared! I have searched my apartment from top to bottom, I have gone through bags and looked under desks and behind chairs and every single place I might possibly have put this chapstick, and yet it is nowhere.

What I want to know is: what on earth did I do to my karma that I'm not allowed to have chapstick?

That sounds like me with cigarettes, for a while. I don't even smoke that often, but now I have a tendency to guard the pack I have because the other ones disappeared.

Hee! I had the opposite problem with cigarettes: I don't like them much (because I don't like smelling like smoke, mainly) but I bought several packs because I was writing a character who smoked, and having him in my mind all the time kept convincing me that I wanted to smoke. (I should probably be grateful that the drugs my character of the moment prefers are not ones that exist in reality, or else I'd be trying to get a hold of some of them.) But I'd smoke a cigarette, remember that I don't like smoking, and then have a pack sitting around for months and months because I didn't have anything to do with it and it somehow never got lost, until I finally gave up and threw the thing away.

At which point my character would convince me that, no, really, I wanted to smoke, and shouldn't I buy another pack just to see?

if your lips are still chapped, I reccomend going and getting some anhydrous lanolin (Longs or some other drugstore miiight have it, a natural foods store might have it, but an herbal/alternative medicine store is sure to carry it.) Take a shower before you go to bed, and as soon as you're out of the shower, slather somelanolin on your lips. It's rather sricky, and smells and tastes rather like wet sheep (it's wool oil!), but it is the best thing I have ever encountered for reeeaallly horrible chapping.

maybe you have an infestation of the dreaded Chapstick Gnomes. nasty little buggers, those.

Oooo, that sounds useful! And it would be nice to do something once a day instead of having to carry around chapstick and apply it constantly. Thank you! I look for it.
