Music meme

I actually have several interesting things to post about, having been busy for the last few days, but because I have class for many, many hours straight on Tuesday, I'm currently tired and lazy and want simple things. And comments.

So! Meme. The ipod horoscope: Put iTunes (or whatever other music player you use) on shuffle, and take the first five songs. This is your horoscope for the next week.

Death From Above - Go Home, Get Down
I like this band; they play a fun sort of Indie Rock with techno influences. The lyrics say, "So that you're not alone/ I wanna take you home with me/ Well, let's stay up all night/ Or you can while I fall asleep". Um, I think the music wants me to sleep with someone. But this apparently is not a relationship in which anything is talked about: "So if you tell me that you'll have me, never leave me til I die/ Why try?/ But if we're living and we're happy and I come back when I go/ You will know." Sounds dysfunctional.

Matthew Good Band - Raygun
Ah, Matt Good. My lovely obsession. These lyrics says, "Armour me with futile aspirations". Yeah, that's hopeful. Actually, most of these lyrics make me think I'll be joining a political protest sometime soon. But we also have, "We've never been there before/ You and me", so I suppose it could also be about my crazy relationship from the previous song making progress.

Fisher - Mad Girl's Love Song
Chamber pop of Slyvia Plath poetry! Which I have already uploaded recently. "I think I made you up inside my head" probably does not bode well for my relationship. Or, you know, my sanity.

Sonu Nigam, Gayatri Lyer (Bride and Prejudice Soundtrack) - Balle Balle (Punjabi Wedding Song)
Yay, bhangra! I don't know what the lyrics actually say, since I don't speak Hindi (if it's even in Hindi, I'm just guessing), but that title is sort of worrying to find in a horoscope. I am not planning on marrying anyone this week.

Jeff Beal (Carnivale Soundtrack)- Justin Calls Iris
Which is a good thing, because iTunes thinks my preacher would be a demonic creature in a relationship with his sister. Oh, Carnivale. You were so crazy and fucked up; why on earth did HBO cancel you?

I already have the Fisher song, and it is made of win. When I first got the song, I listened to it on repeat endlessly. I also have the bhangra song, or at least something with the same name.

Carnivale sounds like an interesting show. I took that song because carnivals + demonic anything is a combination that never fails to get my attention.

Carnivale was an excellent show; very dark and smart, and with all sorts of interesting characters and plots. It only ran for two seasons (both of which are now out on DVD!), which is really disappointing because it had a heavily plotted story arc, and needed one more season to wrap things up. The premise is, in every generation there's a creature of light and a creature of dark, and they're supposed to fight for the control of the world between Heaven and Hell. The story's set during the Depression. The two main characters are a preacher in a small town in California who can make people see visions, and a young man whose farm in the dust bowl failed and is currently working for a traveling circus, who can bring people and animals back to life. But the neat thing is that you don't know which one is the good one and which one is the bad, and neither do they (despite my calling the preacher demonic; he's just kinda creepy).

The song, though, as you have probably already realized, doesn't actually sound much like demons or carnivals, just vaguely scary soundtracking.

Carnivale does sound like it has an interesting premise. Does the show wrap up most of the story arc?

They knew they were going to be canceled, so most of the plot threads were tied up. There's still a lot of annoyingly unanswered questions, but not so much that I think it's not worth watching.

The Bride & Prejudice song appears to have too long a file name to download properly, at least as far as my attempt has shown.

When I downloaded it, it didn't know what file type it was at first. Then when it was done it showed up with an icon which looked like an Excel file. (I don't know why) When I added an mp3 extension to the file name, it was able to play just fine.

I have a Mac, so if you don't, your mileage with this method may vary.

Oh, I'm sorry; that must be annoying. Does this link (http://www.sendspace.com/file/1i4fih) work better?

I randomly pimped some music for downloading in my journal the other day. I blame you! Hee. And I bought a tiny orange overlord ipod shuffle. Clearly you are an influence. ;)

Here's the song I pimped, in case you'd like to try it.

Ooo! I always love getting new music. But I'm having a problem playing the file; it's got a protection lock on it. Um, thank you anyway, though!
