Random Music
Feb. 11th, 2007 11:06 pmI've been incredibly busy all week (in case you couldn't tell, from the lack of posts), and now I need to finish writing two papers, read a book plus several hundred pages of articles, find and revise my CV, upload various notes, and probably several other things I've forgotten. Before Tuesday.
But I'm taking a break for a moment, so you all get some of the music I'm currently obsessed with. I'm going through a crazy-loud dance music phase, which is oh so convenient without a player that lets me bounce to it as I walk places.
Matthew Herbet - Birds of a Feather
You're twisting, it's the way you're shifting,
It's the way you're twisting.
We're like a calf and its leather, (how so tell me)
And you know that your skin will always be taut.
We're gonna all hang together, (how so tell me so)
'Cause you know that your skin will always be taut round here.
The slowest song I'm uploading, but probably the prettiest. If you don't like techno, this is the one to take.
Shout Out Out Out Out - Self Loathing Rulz (Malente Remix)
(no lyrics)
I'm fascinated by the title of this song: is it supposed to be "the rules of self loathing" or "self loathing is awesome"? I don't know, but this is an excellent computer disco/synthesizer song.
Poor Leno (Silken Soul Remix)/There Is a Light That Never Goes Out (Acapella) - Erlend Øye + Röyksopp
And if a double-decker bus crashes into us,
I'd die by your side.
If a ten-ton truck kills the both of us,
I'll die by your side,
I'll die by your side,
Such a heavenly way to die.
Alec song, what! I am seriously in insane amounts of love with this song.
Fall Out Boy - This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race
I am an arms dealer, fitting you with weapons in the form of words,
And I don't really care, which side wins,
Long as the room keeps singing, that's just the business I'm in.
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race,
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race,
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race,
I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress.
I'm the leading man,
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate!
Pop-punk, not techno, but whatever; it's still good to dance to. Fall Out Boy's new album finally came out last week, I think. I've had the leaked copy for a while. I don't like it as much as 'From Under Cork Tree', but this is my favorite song from the new one.
Cobra Starship - Send My Love to the Dancefloor, I'll See You in Hell (Hey Mister DJ)
Let it go, there's no way you can save it now.
Get back, you know that the city is burning.
So the story goes, it makes you wonder.
'Cause if we're trapped and we're never gonna find a way out to
Get out- we're gonna dance now!
Still pop-punk. Seriously, you have to love a song where the title is longer than any line actually sung.
Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Part of Town
Soon enough they all turn around,
Soon enough you'll see them in a different part of town.
Oh, gadjo gets lost in a gypsy part of town.
Let's go!
Gypsy-punk. No, really, it's a genre, though this is the only group I know of that plays it. The main singer's voice is so growly and menacing; it fits perfectly with the lyrics of this song, as opposed to some of their others. Lots of fun, in a strange way.

Date: 2007-02-12 06:26 am (UTC)I've been to four Flogging Molly concerts, and they're always excellent; I can't imagine how awesome it would be to throw Gogol Bordello in, too.

Date: 2007-02-12 07:05 am (UTC)I took a bunch of music to try out. Some of the lyrics you posted hit my buttons. Thanks.
I already had the Fall Out Boy and Gogol Bordello. Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't a Scene, This is An Arms Race" is insanely catchy and also one of my favorite songs of theirs. Gogol Bordello is made of win, and one of my favorite bands since last year. I can upload you a Gogol Bordello album if you want.

Date: 2007-02-13 12:47 am (UTC)Fall Out Boy is very good at writing songs that you just Cannot Get Out Of Your Head. But they seemed to have fewer of those on the new album than their last one, which is why I didn't like it as much. Though I am also very fond of 'Thnks fr th Mmrs', particularly the first verse.
Oh, I'd love an album, if you don't mind! I already have 'Start Wearing Purple', 'Not a Crime' and 'Occurance on the Border' (and 'Gypsy Part of Town', obviously), so if it's easier for you not to upload those, it's not necessary. Thank you!

Date: 2007-02-14 06:25 am (UTC)I haven't heard the entirety of Fall Out Boy's last album. But the only song on their new album I liked in that catchy way was, "This Ain't a Scene, This is An Arms Race."
Gogol Bordello: Gypsy Punks
I included everything except the two songs you already have.
