brigdh: (ugh winter)
[personal profile] brigdh
I have been running all over the place today, meeting with people and getting things organized and trying to have all the general end-of-semester stuff done before I fly home tomorrow. Now I'm wasting a few minutes while I wait for class to start.

By the way, if I spend the summer on a dig in Syria, you all are obligated to write me letters. Nevada was bad enough for losing contact with everyone.

Taken from [livejournal.com profile] daegaer, The first sentence of the first public post of each month:

January: Fixed the shower, the drain of which had, well, ceased draining.

February: More people should post at 4am.

March: I think my brain has liquefied and is trying to melt out through my sinuses!

April: [livejournal.com profile] remixredux names are up!

May: Everyone Sang Siegfried Sassoon

Everyone suddenly burst out singing;
And I was filled with such delight
As prisoned birds must find in freedom,
Winging wildly across the white
Orchards and dark-green fields; on - on - and out of sight.

June: There's a whole thing going on about cultural appropriation; I had no idea until a little while ago, but I've been following links fascinatedly, and I have some thinky thoughts.

July: +Anima is out in English!

August: I've mostly forgotten where these come from, but believe me, they're all worth checking out:

March of the Penguins (youtube video) French commercial for a penguin documentary.

September: AGH COCKROACH IN THE KITCHEN AM NEVER EATING AGAIN

October: [livejournal.com profile] dracula1897: I linked to this back when it first started, but I figure I'll point it out again, since I'm enjoying it so much.

November: Man, I thought I wasn't going to manage to finish that in time.

December: "I hope St Vier kills you soon.

I'm swamped enough that I am toying with taking off work so I can get everything done. I have an ever increasing pile of packages to take to the post office, I had to run the dog to the vet (yearly), have not yet paid my property taxes, etc etc. Let's not talk about the Complete Wreck that is My Home due to NaNoWriMo eating my spare time and brain cells. But I plan to spend my evening (er, at work) sketching lovely manga images, especially the Hakkai/Gojyo kiss for this year's holiday card.

Man, you're even busier than I am! Good luck with getting all that done (I am particularly encouraging the Hakkai/Gojyo kiss, of course).

Ha, maybe? Syria or southern Turkey or last ditch, only-if-I-have-to, Arizonia.

Syria because the guy leading it I met once and is totally crazy also does research in my actual area, and this site is sorta/kinda relevant; it's also third millenium BC. I can't do my real favorite- which is around the border of India and Pakistan- because no one works there in the summers; it's too hot and there are monsoons. So they do Janurary-April seasons, usually, but I have to take classes then, at least this year.

I'll find out in a few weeks, once my advisor emails people and sees who has available slots and funds. I'd be there for at least a month, probably two or three.

Well, I will tell you more once I know!

Not really. I'm being hooked up with it through friends of my advisor, but it's not a NYU project or anything.

Yep. I mean, if I end up going to this one and not somewhere else. Stuff like the pictures on this website (http://www.mohenjodaro.net/mohenjodaromist1.html). (Which is actually a completely different culture, but it's also 3rd millenium, and they both have mud brick cities, and I don't know of any websites for Mesopotamia with as many good pictures, so I'm giving you the link to this one anyway.)

1. How long will you be in town?

2. Would you like to hang out some time?

^^

1. I get in late Tuesday night (11pm), and leave Friday evening, so not for very long.

2. Sure, if we can manage it! Thursday would probably be best for me, but I'm flexible if you can't do that.

!!!

I'm in - you're on my calendar for Thursday. :D It has to be after 4:30pm, though, since that's when I get off of work. Do you want to come over? I can cook dinner, then perhaps we can do a movie? ^^

Dude, I'm not even here. I am afraid of my to-do list. If it catches me even glancing at LJ, it's going to hurt me.

*laughs* I suppose it's sort of comforting that everyone else is equally busy- at least we're not missing anything each other is doing.
