I have to write a New Year's Resolution story if I want to participate in this year's [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, since I hadn't finished my obligation last year. I'd been meaning to, but hadn't gotten around to it yet, when [livejournal.com profile] kessie reminded me of it, and convinced me to try. The 15th is the suggested day to have them finished by, but since they don't have to be too long, I think I can make it. Now the important question!

Most definitely have to agree. Farseer for everyone! Especially the Fool and Fitz! Love those books!

Doesn't anyone? I can't believe there isn't more of a fandom for them, although I suppose Hobb's feelings on that have toned down potential contributors.

Hee.

The 'Liveship Traders' trilogy is excellent. Seriously, if you haven't read it yet, do so right away. It even has pirates! The 'Golden Man' trilogy is the Continuing Adventures of Fitz and The Fool, but it nowhere near as good as the original, and I hated the ending. The 'Soldier's Son' trilogy is her new set, and I thought the first one was interesting but not exceptionally, but I'm withholding judgment until the other two come out.

Hey! I made it back to school safe. Just out of curiosity, did I happen to leave a set of keys behind by any chance?

Good to hear!

I don't see any. What do they look like? Do you know where they might be? I hope you didn't lose them.

Um, just two keys on a ring. One normal sized, one small. Last I saw they were in my duffle bag, so maybe they just got mixed with my dirty laundry.

I don't see them anywhere, but I'll let you know if they turn up. I hope you find them!

All right, thanks!

Dude, seriously, why are you even asking this question? There should be smut and snark and Alec! Especially since there is new Alec canon to play with. Also, Richard can kill someone, that's always good.

Hee. The world does need more smut and snark and Alec, after all, and clearly I should do my part to fill the lack.

(Have you read Privledge of the Sword? Such fun new canon.)

I thought they'd gotten rid of the qualification story requirement this year? Not that I'm thinking about signing up, because doing that would be stupid, right?

I've never read the Hobb books, but there's something about her tone that does make the thought of ignoring her oddly tempting. But then, you know that if you do the Swordspoint option instead, you'll probably be making the author in question very, very happy. What to do, what to do?

You wouldn't have to write a qualification story if you signed up (and you should! Yuletide is such a great event), but I had agreed to write a story last year and then was unable to meet the deadline, and so have to write one now to prove that I won't flake out again.

I'm surprised that more people haven't ignored Hobb, but I've only ever seen one piece of fanfiction for her books, and that didn't even feature my favorite characters. Even other authors famous for forbidding fanfiction have at least a few.

But then, you know that if you do the Swordspoint option instead, you'll probably be making the author in question very, very happy.

Oh god, don't say such things. I'm so embarrassed by the thought of Kushner reading my stories.

I'm so embarrassed by the thought of Kushner reading my stories.

And embarrassment has no rights or wrongs, so I cannot and will not argue. Except to say that you're too good a writer for anybody but you to find it embarrassing in the unlikely event that it happened.

I'm afraid to sign up for Yuletide. My track record for actually coming up with something to write for challenges is getting worse with every passing moment. In fact, I'm too frightened to even check to see when the [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge thing is due. What if it's tomorrow? And I don't even have a clue what I'm going to write about.

Thank you. I think it's the tinyness of the fandom; it makes me feel exposed. Yami no Matsuei and Saiyuki are hardly giants on the scale of, say, Harry Potter, but at least in them I never feel responsible for representing entire segments of fandom.

I'm usually very good at meeting deadlines, even if it's with a terrible thing that I later hate to look at, but I've been bad about it this last year. In addition to Yuletide, I have never-finished [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge and [livejournal.com profile] stages_of_love stories now months overdue, but that I'm determined to finish someday.
