This is an email I just got regarding housing next year:

Reminder!!! The deadline to change your preferences and to select a roommate is tomorrow -- June 1, 2006. All requests must be received no later than 12:00 noon New York time. Changes in preferences or roommate pairings will not be permitted after that time.

If you've written me regarding the items mentioned above, please know that I am swamped with making the necessary changes and will be unable to send confirmations.

...there is no way that will not inspire paranoia in *every single person* who gets it. I mean, "You absolutely have to have this in within the next few hours, but I can't be bothered to let you know if I've gotten it or not?" Dude, what goes through some people's minds?

My guess? Being overworked and underpaid. :p It ain't easy working as a staff member at a university.

Heh, true. I do feel bad for him; I'm just worried that since I didn't send mine in till this morning that it's going to get lost and I'll have to live in the skanky building.

Yeah. With university stuff, it's best not to wait until the last minute. Then people are cranky and less likely to go out of the way to help. Like, where I worked, this would also be end of fiscal year, so everyone's got a bajillion things to do.

But hopefully, everything will be okay. Your guy probably should learn how to set up auto-reply stuff though, or make the department get a better computer system for it. Like, an online database or something.

I usually good with deadlines, but various circumstances caused me to not be able to start the process until two weeks after everyone else, so I feel like I should get a bonus for having managed to finish with a day left anyway. ;)

Yeah, just a simple "got it" email would have worked for me; he doesn't need to actually read my thing yet.
