Me: Hello?
The Professor: Hi! So, um, you haven't committed to anywhere else, have you?
Me: Nope.
P: So you're still interested in NYU? Because we have to send our candidates to the admissions office next week, and I was just, uh, curious.
Me: O.O I'm still interested.
P: Let me tell you about the funding that we offer, by the way.
Me: O.O
O.O
Okay!
P: And now I'll go on about our department for twenty minutes. Because, see, we're much better than any of the other places you applied to, and I want to be very sure that you get that message. You totally want to come here, trust me. I will say anything to make you come here.
Me: Sounds good!
P: If you have any questions, any thing at all, email me. Or call me. Here, have my personal cellphone number, in fact!
Me: Got it.
Oh god, NYU totally wants to give me a fellowship.
Also, hey: I went to the movies last night instead of writing my paper (alright, I wrote it eventually. Mostly this morning), and saw Curious George. It is now confirmed- baby monkeys being adopted by boring people are always indescribably cute.

Date: 2006-02-26 06:03 pm (UTC)You know, I'd wanted to see it as soon as I saw the first previews, since I'd adored the books when I was little, but I was too embarrassed by it being such a kid's movie to say anything about it. And then I was standing around with a friend Wednesday, trying to figure out what we wanted to do, when she said, "Hey, I want to see Curious George," so of course I had to respond, "Oh my god, YES, no one else will that with me, we're going right now."
And it was actually really cute.

Date: 2006-02-26 06:08 pm (UTC)Heh. Normally that would be true. But since we saw it at 10pm on a college campus, it was just a bunch of 20-year-olds being dorky.
Also, they made the man in the yellow hat into an archaeologist, so I got to be really amused.
