Things I have done today
Jan. 3rd, 2006 06:28 pm1. Fixed the shower, the drain of which had, well, ceased draining. But, armed with a plunger, I have corrected this problem. I'd be prouder if my handyman skills consisted of more than this and occasionally changing lightbulbs.
2. Got my imp of Snow Moon in the mail, plus one of Cathedral. Thank you,
telophase!
3. Made Lentil and Egg Curry.
1 cup lentils, washed
3 tablespoons margarine
2 sliced onions
1 tablespoon curry powder
3/4 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
6 eggs
Hard-cook eggs, cool. Melt margarine in medium saucepan. Add sliced onions and curry powder; saute until onions are transparent. Add lentils, water and salt. Bring to a boil, then cover and cook over medium heat for 45 minutes. Slice eggs, add to lentil and mix gently. Serve immediately.
Well, that's the recipe from the book, but I'm terrible about actually following cooking instructions, so I only used 3 eggs and added 6 or 7 mushrooms and several carrots. I also put in rather more curry powder and salt than was called for, plus red and black pepper and ginger, because I like things spicy. I'm not sure how much I added of each, because I forgot where I'd put my measuring spoons (of course, I found them as soon as I was done), so I just shook in what looked like appropriate amounts. You know, given how how causal I am about following recipes or making sure I use accurate measurements, I really should end up with more ruined meals than I do. I must be lucky.
I also should make it one of my New Year's resolutions to cook real meals more often, instead of things that I can just throw in the oven or that only require boiling water.
4. Started classes.
5. Read The Pillow Book of Tim Bayliss off
rachelmanija's recommendation. I don't even know the fandom (Homicide, by the way), and I still enjoyed this.
I feel very accomplished.
